Now I wonder if anyone will change rank today so that they will have been two different dogs?

Yes it's surprising but true: All of the changes today, affecting all users throughout the forums, were a result of a glitch in M4th's browser. It just proves how interconnected the world is!

Every dog has its day
For those who are confused by the posts in this thread around the date of April 1, 2025, we'll explain what was going on.
User titles changed to dog breeds for the day. The number of counted posts for a given user determined their user title, with the sequence ordered by the weight of a typical dog of that breed.
macrumors newbie became macrumors Chihuahua
macrumors member became macrumors Pomeranian
etc.
For paying members:
Contributor became Top Dog
macrumors demi-god became Man’s Best Friend
macrumors demi-goddess became Woman's Best Friend
Moderators had the title Paw Patrol. Administrators had the title Cerberus.
It took time to effect these changes, so some user titles switched earlier and some switched later, and of course forum members are spread across many timezones. The macrumors newbie title was the first to change and the first to change back. The Contributor title was the last to change and the last to change back.

I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's changes; the staff must have had great fun coming up with all of those canine titles, and assigning them accordingly.
I hereby submit my petition to make Dog breeds (or Cat breeds, I’m fine with that, too!) permanent.
