But a newbie with 5 posts who joined in 2002 isn’t really contributing to the site. So in lots of ways a newbie compared to someone who posts a lot who’s been a member for a short time.
This could be true, but it's also possible that they're just a lurker who only posts once every few years. I guess they could still be a community newbie in a way, as in people don't really know them.

But a newbie with five posts who joined in 2002 probably had a question he or she wished to have answered, and didn't see the act of joining the site as a prelude to actually contributing to the site on a more permanent basis.

I’ve been made an example of!

I've been coming here every day (often multiple times a day) for over 12 years, and I have less than 500 posts. People like me do exist!
Likewise! Been coming here everyday for years (along with MacSurfer RIP) .....didn't think to join until a few ago. Still, has been more than worth it....great site! I've pointed many others this way over the years.

Reading the titles I wonder what the first Apple CPU might be called and who will be the first A14m... or will iOS device CPUs sneak in?

Maybe the "newbie" title should change to "introvert" after a year if a user still has insufficient posts to become a "member."
Some forums use various forms of lurker for this. For example less than 10 posts after 10 years gets you a super special lurker status

Ivy Bridge definitely does exist but I cannot confirm the exact post amount.

Yes, I can confirm - definitively and conclusively - that it does appear to exist.

I believe it starts at 54K.

I believe that I actually saw that very change take place quite unexpectedly before my rather bemused bespectacled eyes a matter of mere days ago.

You are the member I used to check when the count changed. Lol

It took me by surprise, as well, as I hadn't exected it, and had never seen any refernce to Ivy Bridge as a possible 'rank', secret or otherwise.

However, I can confirm that it clocks - or registers - a change of rank at 54,000.
Congratulations on a new milestone!

Thank you.

No, not many.

In fact, I suspect that I may be entirely on my own (unless @maflynn also holds it), just as I am domestically (at the moment) in these challenging Covid times.
I think he has a mod one, but yes that would be his rank I believe. I’m sure we shall have some statistics along shortly as it’s nearly that time of year.
