Not sure where this goes or what problem it really falls under.

Upgraded from a 15 PM to a 16 PM. Prior to that, I was on the iOS 18 beta on my 15 PM. Not a single issue with anything! Nothing. As soon as I did a phone to phone transfer via cable, I had some weird issues. The HomeKit widget on my lock screen said "no lights responding" and never went away. Not after 4 days. My Schlage Encode Plus lock starts sending delayed notifications or none at all. So I wiped my phone again after backing up to a computer. Started with a fresh OS and restored from backup. Fixed the lock screen widget issue and temporarily fixed the notification issues. After a day, it was back to delayed. Nothing I did would resolve it.

I restarted my entire network, reboot my house power, replaced the schlage lock with a new one. I have wiped my phone 3 times, setup as new and only signed into iCloud (did not restore from backup) - same issue. Wiped and restored from backup, same issue. So I did it one more time and setup as new only signing into iCloud. Same issue.

Here's the kicker.. no other device of mine has the issue. iPad, computer, TV all get the notification instantly. My partners phone and watch, instant notifications if the door is locked/unlocked. My phone/watch - if I get notifications, is 12+ second delay. Sometimes longer.

I've tried it all. I have no clue what the issue is or what is happening. I even removed the lock from HomeKit and had my partner add it under his device. Same issues for me but all other devices, instant notification.

I am at my whits end. Short of calling Apple and opening a case, I have no clue.

You must call crApple and raise it with them. I have the exact same issues since ios18. I’ve done feedback and raised a call. No fix is on its way yet that I’m aware of. Unless people officially complain then it’s unlikely to get fixed anytime soon…or ever.

I don't know if this is your issue, but there have been a couple threads about delayed notifications. Turning off Apple Intelligence or turning on Summarize Previews fixes it for me. Could that explain the difference in behavior you're seeing between all your devices? (Is your phone using Apple Intelligence and the other devices aren't? And/or is your phone not using Summarize Previews and the other devices are?)

For me, this doesn’t work unfortunately. These issues have existed since the very first ios18 without those features enabled. May help others of course.

I have not heard of that. I will try that today and see if it helps. I am not sure if it's enabled on my other devices. I thought once you enabled it on one, it does it on all? Summarize previews is OFF. If I turn it on, all my apps are listed and HomeKit is turned off. What's the course of action for that? Do I need to just turn on Summarize Previews - then turn on all the apps I want or just leave it as is?

Same here for me. I am not sure what feature it is. I'm going to try iStorm's reccommendation and see what happens. I also have an iPhone 12 Pro that I am also going to test from to see if the issue persists there as well or not. Just trying to narrow this down.

I don’t know if this helps any, but since iOS 18, I no longer get any notifications for lock/unlock from my NUKI *matter* enabled smart lock if I am the one that performs the action.

However if I share my home with someone they get notifications that I have locked or unlocked the door, and I get notifications if they unlock or lock the door. But neither of us receive notifications for our own actions.

And I only get notifications from my separate Bluetooth smart lock when I am reasonably close, again NUKI.

I need to reiterate, that before iOS 18, both devices’ notifications worked absolutely perfectly so it is nothing to do with range, network or anything like that.

These settings (Apple Intelligence and Summarize Previews) are per-device settings. They need to be set up/configured on each device individually if they support AI. You'll want to turn Summarize Previews on and then make sure it's also toggled on for the apps you don't want delayed notifications for. I ended up turning it on for every app, which is what I assume would have happened if I had turned it on during the initial Apple Intelligence set up screens (rather than specifying to set it up later).

This is most likely a bug, but you essentially have two workaround options (assuming you're experiencing the same issue):
  • Turn off Apple Intelligence.
  • If using Apple Intelligence, turn on Summarize Previews for the apps.

Very interesting. I hope this is the case. I am going to try it tonight! Thank you. I'll check back in with an update later.

I turned on Summarize Previews and my notifications for HomeKit (specifically my lock) are now instant. All other devices not having issues do not use Apple Not Intelligent. I did notice today leaving, I did not get a lock notification. Tried twice. I will disable Apple Not Intelligent for further testing.

Too early. Not receiving notifications at all anymore. Even turned off Apple intelligence. Nada. I get no lock/unlock notifications anymore. This is infuriating!

Done a bit more experimenting today as I managed to get an iPhone X with iOS 16 on it. The lock and unlocked notifications are behaving exactly the same way on this device i.e. I’m not receiving them. So it’s not specifically an iOS 18 issue, rather the home hub itself and its respective version of the 18 wave of software… at least, that’s what I think.

Please do report this. This is the only way it’s going to get fixed otherwise it will just get added to the list of bugs that Apple never ever address.

For reference, my Feedback ID is FB15439096

Setup a 12 Pro as new, logged into iCloud with my info (did NOT restore from any backup). I am going to test this device later to see if notifications behave the same as they do on my 16 PM. Notifications stopped working yesterday. Removed the lock and added it back, notifications were instant for the first hour. After that, nada. It's really hit or miss with what's going on. Apple Intelligence is off.

I did the same with my 16 pro Max and no avail.

Also I don’t think this is Apple Intelligence because as I said above, I don’t get the notifications on my iPhone X which obviously does not support Apple Intelligence.

Will be interesting to see what results you come back with, but I can almost guarantee it will make no difference. Out of interest, are your locks connected via Matter?

Have you reported it to Apple?

So I noticed this morning, my lock was connected via Bluetooth - which it wasn't before, it was matter. No reports to Apple yet. I want to finish testing before I move forward with that.

Further testing - lock is on thread. Notifications ARE received when the lock is manually unlocked inside or outside with a key. Notifications are NOT received (sometimes one may come through) when an automation locks the door (I have an automation that when door sensor is closed, lock door), when someone uses their watch/phone. I'm at a loss at this point.

Anyone have any new info here? Everything is working except when an automation LOCKS the door. No notification.

Thanks for the great reply… so for me iPhone 15 pro max, and iOS 18.2

With apple intelligence on, 14 seconds from when button is pressed on unifi g4 doorbell to when push notification shows up on my phone

With apple intelligence off, 4 seconds from when button is pressed on unifi g4 doorbell to when push notification shows up on my phone

With apple intelligence on and summarized notification ON , it makes no difference , still 14 seconds

The above is the same for my eufy door locks and apple homekit notifications

Just to clarify, there are two parts to this. 'Summarized Notifications' needs to be on, but you also need to make sure it's turned on for the app(s) as well.

Also, iOS 18.3 was released yesterday, and I think this issue is fixed. I didn't do much testing, but I just turned off 'Summarize Notifications' and had a couple notifications come through without a delay.

I’ll test and let you know. I have summarized on and on as well for the app I’m getting delayed notification on

Turning off “show on Mac” in the notifications settings for an app in the iOS settings app did it for me
