Maybe I am simply missing where the option/feature is.
Can I not delete my own posts or threads?

You can delete your posts. You can't delete the post if it is the foundation of a thread. If your post qualifies, you should see the delete option available to the right of the edit button.

Edited to add: The perk should be used with caution. If the staff believes a member is abusing the perk, one may see a message from the staff in his or her inbox.

I think contributors can delete their posts, though there may be a time limit.

Ah, understood. Since this was the start of the thread, I would not have the delete option.

yep, deleting 1st post is the same as deleting the whole thread and that would remove other people's posts.
