Don't worry about those for now. They are just plist settings files that won't hurt anything.

Kill that TomTom folder with my earlier command then reboot and do an new iFileX search and tell me what's left.

Okay, just completed the 10 files showing with your request after $
I typed: sudo rm -rf /Library/StartupItems/TomTom*

Once completed, I closed everything down and started the computer.
The window on the desktop:
Insecure Startup Items folder detected.
Items in the Startup Items folder ("/Library/StartupItems/") have not been started because the folder does not have proper security settings.

I checked the iFileX for TomTom and the same 10 files are still there.

Is there somewhere I should find what it is mentioning?

Start Disk Utility and select Macintosh HD then run a repair permissions.

Now click the desktop then the Go menu ant the top then Go to folder and paste in /Library/StartupItems/ and enter and do you see any TomTom files in there any longer?

TomTom has left the computer...but...

Start Disk Utility and select Macintosh HD then run a repair permissions.

Now click the desktop then the Go menu ant the top then Go to folder and paste in /Library/StartupItems/ and enter and do you see any TomTom files in there any longer?

Whew! Just completed the task. Thank you. I do not know if others have had this same troubles, glad you are there to unlock the key to remove these problems.

Could I ask one one item along the same troubles please?
First off, I followed carefully your ideas to remove as many files as possible, but I am left with four that will not depart.
The program was called MacKeeper.

Here are the four files:

private/var/db/receipts/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.affid.pkg.bom
private/var/db/receipts/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.affid.pkg.plist
private/var/db/receipts/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.pkg.bom
private/var/db/receipts/com.zeobit.MacKeeper.pkg.plist

Could you please tell me the key to use after sudo rm -rf or is there another method to rid these from the computer?

As stated, I was able to remove 11 files accept for these.

Thank you again for sticking with me through the TomTom workout.

I hope you do not mind me asking for one more favor,
Gary

Yay! We are making progress. :)

This run in Terminal should kill all those MacKeeper files.

Code:
sudo rm -rf /private/var/db/receipts/com.zeobit*

Good Bye....MacKeeper....UGH!

Your code worked like a charm. Thank you. Before finding MacRumors Forums, I was told MacKeeper was the solution. Without saying more... it wasn't. I had no idea by trashing their application, all of their other files were continued to be stored in my computer.

Thank you for getting rid of both TomTom and MacKeeper. It's nice to know you are out their for those of us with that 'little bit of computer knowledge'. You sure got my wheels turning and cleaned out the cobwebs from my Fortran and Cobol days (and nights) many years ago.

Hopefully, I will stay clear of any other person's 'bright ideas' and just come to MacRumors Forums from now on with my Mac questions.

Again, thank you for all of your help and staying with me throughout these past days.

All the best,
Gary

You are quite welcome. Glad to help. :)

LOL @ Cobol. Story time! I supervised a project at work where we converted a mission critical, custom WANG COBOL application to AccuCOBOL on HP/Unix rack mounted servers. We looked everywhere for a modern replacement for this app and there really was nothing close, so just converted what we had to modern hardware (could not get WANG server parts any longer). It all worked out pretty well.

At the time, about eight years ago, I discovered we were not the only ones in this spot. I was shocked to see how many HUGE insurance companies and banks are pretty much run off these old COBOL platforms with no good way to move to anything else... so they just keep on trucking with COBOL like we did.

COBOL programmers can make some good money now maintaining these systems.
