I think Apple had to weigh customer satisfaction and shareholder satisfaction, and I think they made a business decision they thought would do the least harm.

  1. Release when more stock was available, but miss their promis of an "early 2015" release date. Or...
  2. Release in "early 2015" but not have enough stock on hand to make early adopters (who are incidentally Apple's biggest fans) happy.

The question is, did they make the right choice? Clearly we are not happy about the way this was rolled out. Many people didn't preorder because they assumed there would be a line they could wait in on 4/24. Those of us who did preorder are seeing people who ordered after us get their watches shipped ahead of ours. To add insult to injury, watches will be available at boutique stores and, for better or worse, they're on the wrists of a handful of celebrities. Both of the latter decisions, while aiming to grow the watch's appeal outside of typical early adopters of new tech, do not sit well with the Apple faithful who lost a night of sleep and shelled out money with an expectation of receiving their order in a manner that at least resembled something in the ballpark of fairness. Mind you, Apple never promised a 4/24 delivery.

I think Apple did cash in on some of their customers' loyalty, which we're not used to them doing. I just hope this isn't a symbol of what's to come in a post-Jobs Apple, where courting the glitterati and fashionistas is more important than the loyalty they get from their long-time fans that made them the company they are today.

This is very well written. I would like to point out that I highly doubt that the watches they will have at the Boutiques will be the lower end models. Most boutiques least expensive watches are around $10k, I would guess they will only be selling the Edition versions so them being available there might be a product of Apple not selling as many as they thought on 4/10. just a thought.

I'm in WA (about 45 min. from Seattle) and just got Friday delivery on my UPS app. SS classic black buckle 42mm & SS milanese loop 38mm. Just wanted to post in case people on the West Coast are still wondering if anyone's gotten shipping info. PFS since yesterday afternoon.

Looks like that's not the case. The botiques will not have the edition. That leave the Apple watch and Apple watch sport. Think they will let me camp out in front of the store?

42 mm SS with Milanese. Order email :04, bank charged, got UPS notification for delivery on Friday. Hooray!

I won't say that until I have the watch in my hand! For all I know, the UPS guy can leave it with the neighbors, completely forget to come to my house or something.

So the email about them processing... That pretty much lowers the probability of a Friday delivery? I ordered a 42 SS BSB btw... In Corona, California with a 12:04 PST Confirmation.

Almost gave up on getting it this Friday. Decided to check UPS one more time and was able to find a tracking number.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm in Northern California (SF Bay Area)

42 SS BSB here as well.

I wouldn't worry too much even if you got the "email of death", there's still a chance your order can be charged and processed tomorrow and still make delivery on Friday.

The worst thing that can happen is you will wait 2 more days. I know it sucks if that happens but getting it on Monday wouldn't be so bad...:(

True. True. What time did you get ur confirmation?

Just curious, did anyone else get a commit time from UPS? I somehow got a commit time of by Noon. I've never had that on an apple preorder before.

Interesting. It's usually based on the service level- unless you're in and extended delviery area.
