Given the performance claims, my guess is the "Mac Pro" line sunsets with Intel (Including Intel itself, who knew?).
You weren't paying attention. John Ternus clearly said that the final M1 Mac would be the Mac Pro and that it was for a different day.

Which SSD?

I was really hoping for upgradeable RAM, but it looks like the Studio has zero internal expandability.
But 128Gb 20C/48G/32N Ultra with 4Tb (my choice) is still less than the cheapest Mac Pro... I've waited this long so waiting for the first tear down videos is no biggie. $5800 is worth it for me if it will get OS updates for 10 years. This is what I really want from Apple Silicon, hopefully Apple will deliver. Despite all its faults, the 2013 MP might make it that far (21 months to go).

Looks like the delivery dates are whacked. Selecting the Max CPU first, then configuring 128Gb 20C/48G/32N ULTRA with 4Tb shows an April 6th - 13th Delivery, Over a month sooner than first selecting Ultra + same options.

Given the performance claims, my guess is the "Mac Pro" line sunsets with Intel (Including Intel itself, who knew?).

Also, with a $2k base price entry point, the Studio might just put Mac desktops in a great position. I may have to expand my Software company, but I'm having too much fun in semi-retirement.
Thanks for pointing this out about the ordering delivery dates! If you originally selected lower specs like M1 Max page and then upgrade to M1 Ultra with max specs then you will receive a month earlier than if you started out with Ultra. That’s crazy!!

Of course it did. The YouTube review vultures need to get their views up. Remember to subscribe! ?

I rewatched his closing "another day" remarks, which didn't specifically mention M1, but Apple Silicon (AS) in general.

I can wait until WWDC. Hopefully the AS Mac Pro will have a comparable price performance point to the Studio I priced.
I wouldn't expect that. This Mac Studio covers A LOT of room in Apple's line-up, from maxed-out Mac Mini, to iMac Pro, to Mac Pro.

I have a feeling the Mac Pro will be even more ridiculous in power and niche than the one before, and priced accordingly (remember $700 wheels?)

This may be a stupid question but if I get a Mac studio and studio display, can I also hook up my work windows laptop to the display and switch between them? If not I’ll have to cancel the display and get an ultrawide monitor instead.

I still think this is Apples best looking and paired hardware in decades.
huh, really? still missing the old Steve Job and Jony Ive's day. The most recent MacBook Pros are more like the heavy and bulky IBM or lenovo laptops back in 1999...

why do you guys think the M1 Ultra Mac Studio is 2 pounds heavier than the M1 Max Mac Studio? will it have a smaller heatsink and maybe only 1 fan instead of two?

Yes. Get a USB 4 switch (2-in 1-out) on Amazon.

I ordered within 5 minutes of the event ending for the monitor and got a second week of April ship date (VESA), so I think all of the non-standard configurations were probably always set for April.
Same here, in the UK (although it was 10 minutes after, and first week of April).

I was very temped to get the display today but because I still use my two 30" ACDs and enjoy the larger sizes, I will wait a bit longer to see the upcoming XDR price and configuration will be. Hopefully we will get a clue at WWDC.
I can relate to that, having retired my 30" ACD only recently. However, having it sat beside a 5K iMac for years I never one thought the 27" size was too small - or even any different at all, really. If anything the extra resolution of the 5K allowed me to get more things on there readably than the 30".

Alas, it died a couple of months ago and I replaced it with a fairly cheap 27" 4K LG (I had also been holding out for a new Apple display - so didn't want to invest too much). Just last week I replaced my iMac with my M1 Pro MBP and got a second LG display and it's the best setup I've had yet! The biggest downside is that I've not been able to find a webcam that comes close to the one built in to the iMac (and I'm using the MBP in clamshell while docked).

So I'm returning the second LG and am waiting for my new Studio display. Back to mismatched displays - but can't quite justify two at this point.

Anyway, going back to the original point. I can't speak for you - but would recommend trying a 27" out in your environment before giving up on that form factor, if you can.

Is the new monitor capable of daisy chaining? I'm assuming it's not, but just wanted confirmation.

This time I purchased the studio the instant it was available, therefore I'll be getting it in 2 weeks.
When I purchased my macbook (then sent back) I had to wait 2 months.

Studio M1Max, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD = March 30-April 6 delivery for me. I ordered about 45 minutes after the keynote ended. I was shocked at how low the starting price was on the Studio - I really figured it would start at $2500 and go up much higher for the BTO options.

For high-end users, this thing is a bargain! Can't say the same for the Display - $1,600 for a 27" display and $400 extra to adjust the height... LOL! I don't care how good the speakers and web cam are... that's just insane.

Just Ordered:

M1 Max with 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU
64GBRAM
2TB SSD

APRIL Est Delivery: 14/04/2022 – 26/04/2022

5.5-7 Weeks

Apple Silicon CPUs are all SoCs... how do you propose a RAM upgrade in that scenario? This will probably never change, unless they have a RAM Module (like an MPX one the current Pro uses, not individual sticks) solution for the new Mac Pro that connects via the UltraFusion interface that the M1 Ultra uses. Even then, you can't beat SoC for low latency.

I was tempted even though my iMac Pro is still a spectacular machine. Amazingly Apple dropped the trade in value for the iMac Pro from $2550 a day before to $1450 right after the event lol.
