Lovely display... a far cry in price from the $999 27" TB display I still own and love!
Not that far considering how much better the new display is, spec wise. $999 in 2011 when it got released is approaching $1250 today.

Apple's power home home-user offerings used to have a competitive price to their PC counterparts. A $3K 27" iMac was an $1800 PC with a $1200 monitor. Many people were happy.

I could never justify a $4K desktop and a $1500 monitor though. Apple is aiming a little too high with their M1 product pricing, IMO. Their laptops on the other hand were priced perfectly.

You don't have to buy a $4K desktop. Get a $1000 Mac Mini or $1500 Macbook Air and connect either to this monitor.

huh, really? still missing the old Steve Job and Jony Ive's day. The most recent MacBook Pros are more like the heavy and bulky IBM or lenovo laptops back in 1999...

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I remember the epic whinefests here about Apple laptops becoming too thin; with juvenile Ive put downs. And all of the "who asked for that" bleats.

all you guys buying the Ultra... why they will announce a mega ultra max at WWDC, they you will all be selling up...and the YouTubers will be buying them and selling them once they have made their videos

I bet at least half of these people buying it don't need 10% of the perfomance. Mostly are brand buyers.

I agree that they did not overshoot as the other poster said. However, I do feel like there is no middle at the moment. I was hoping for a $1500ish M1 Pro mini. I do not need something like the Max and certainly not the Ultra. I also would be plenty happy with a desktop to pair with my iPad. For myself, the Studio looks awesome, but it leaves me wondering if I would be better off with a MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro instead. Either way I am spending money for features I do not need or particularly want. The base model MacBook Pro in a mini case is exactly what I was hoping for.

I think every true Mac geek covets this new bit of kit. Honestly $10K for two displays and a pretty maxed-out Ultra Studio is not too shabby, for what you're getting.

fully agreed. This makes me think the reason why John Ternus finished off the last bit of the presentation by saying the Macpro that’s for another day makes me think that hey April might get announced close to Christmas but it probably will ship outside the two-year mark delivery date will see but most likely will all not have to worry because this is some pretty powerful kit

Which SSD?

I was really hoping for upgradeable RAM, but it looks like the Studio has zero internal expandability.
But 128Gb 20C/48G/32N Ultra with 4Tb (my choice) is still less than the cheapest Mac Pro... I've waited this long so waiting for the first tear down videos is no biggie. $5800 is worth it for me if it will get OS updates for 10 years. This is what I really want from Apple Silicon, hopefully Apple will deliver. Despite all its faults, the 2013 MP might make it that far (21 months to go).

Looks like the delivery dates are whacked. Selecting the Max CPU first, then configuring 128Gb 20C/48G/32N ULTRA with 4Tb shows an April 6th - 13th Delivery, Over a month sooner than first selecting Ultra + same options.

Given the performance claims, my guess is the "Mac Pro" line sunsets with Intel (Including Intel itself, who knew?).

Also, with a $2k base price entry point, the Studio might just put Mac desktops in a great position. I may have to expand my Software company, but I'm having too much fun in semi-retirement.
Upgradable RAM?!?!??! Isn't the RAM practically on the chip die? It's unlike anything anyone else makes. And Thunderbolt is pretty darn expandable IMHO. And the delivery dates, if you actually order come out the same. Not sure why the website is a bit off on that. There is still going to be a Mac Pro, but the iMac 27" and iMac Pro have been replaced with the Max and Ultra (ie Pro) paired with the new Studio display. This is much, much better so you don't have to "throw out" a monitor if you want to upgrade your Studio in the future or the studio monitor can be used with anything else.

I can relate to that, having retired my 30" ACD only recently. However, having it sat beside a 5K iMac for years I never one thought the 27" size was too small - or even any different at all, really. If anything the extra resolution of the 5K allowed me to get more things on there readably than the 30".

Alas, it died a couple of months ago and I replaced it with a fairly cheap 27" 4K LG (I had also been holding out for a new Apple display - so didn't want to invest too much). Just last week I replaced my iMac with my M1 Pro MBP and got a second LG display and it's the best setup I've had yet! The biggest downside is that I've not been able to find a webcam that comes close to the one built in to the iMac (and I'm using the MBP in clamshell while docked).

So I'm returning the second LG and am waiting for my new Studio display. Back to mismatched displays - but can't quite justify two at this point.

Anyway, going back to the original point. I can't speak for you - but would recommend trying a 27" out in your environment before giving up on that form factor, if you can.
The new 27" looks good. Since my ACDs are still working, my plan is to keep them and get a third display (XDR?) and put in the middle as the main display for work and the ACDs as a supporting displays for tabs, internet, email, etc. This is the main reason the 27" in the middle would look funny due to the size discrepancy.
As a designer the high res of the XDR is very tempting, just the price still hard for me to justify. We'll see.

I'm glad I got my Max 32GB/2TB Studio order in...currently targeted for March 30th.
My wife is like...why do we need this thing???

Impossible. I saw tons of posts about how this was not a good deal.

Before you get too excited, recall that the HomePod and AirPods Max also sold out and had long lead times. Selling out does not mean anything without knowing how many they made. Also, the headline is a tad misleading. The base display is still available in March (the 24th to be exact).

I’m in Canada is all.

The ever present thing with new launch delivery times, you snooze, you lose.

March 22nd for my Mac Studio on a BTO option. Bought within 10 minutes of the store going live.
