I ordered a new MacBook Air (M2, 256gb SSD, 16gb RAM) last night (6/17/2023) and it is scheduled for delivery to my nearest Apple Store on July 5th. Does anyone know why the delivery date is two and a half weeks into the future? Is there another supply chain issue? Any chance Apple will deliver it sooner than that?

Demand might have ramped up since launch pushing ETAs out a bit, this is normal.

Apple is also very conservative when it comes to their estimated delivery dates - they like to under-promise and over-deliver in that area (which is smart as orders will usually appear to ship earlier than expected).

Save a few incidents with customs and or weather, I've always received my Apple BTO orders from China a couple or a few days sooner than the ETA. In a couple of cases, over a week sooner.

And in my area, FedEx is much faster (China to New York) than UPS.

Also, pre-orders wise, apple was offering free express delivery, and doesn't look like that is an option any more for BTO

I think it's interesting that nobody seems to have 16gb MacBook Air's in stock. I tried the Apple Store and Best Buy, and they both have delivery weeks away. Even Amazon doesn't have them in stock.

What color are you looking for? Like a previous poster said, it looks like the 16gb/1tb config is easier to get. It looks like it's in stock and shipping tomorrow for the space gray, starlight, and midnight options. There's only a delay on the silver one. That's actually why I headed up with the Midnight color. I was debated between Midnight and Silver and the Midnight still had release day delivery when I purchased mine.

I just checked. It has the same delivery date as the one I ordered.
May be location based. I just checked my location and Midnight and Space Gray are both available for delivery tomorrow or Tuesday in my area for 16gb/1tb

I ordered the Midnight version. Color choice really doesn't matter, especially since I could always order a different skin for it later. I think I'll just wait and hope that Apple gets it early. If not, I'm not really in a rush to get it.

I just wish the website had given me options. If another color was in stock, even if it was at another store, It's likely that I could have got it a lot sooner than July 5th. If anyone at Apple is reading this, please look into it.

That's so strange and must be location based. I understand though. I would want it faster than that. Hopefully you'll get it quickly, Apple does seem to be good about that.

Are you doing store pick up? Store pick up does list delivery commitment of July 5, but shipping to home states June 30-July 5. I suspect it will end up showing up a lot sooner than June 30 if that's the case.

Apple says mine will arrive at my local Apple Store on July 5th. I can provide a screen capture later if you like.

I ordered my Midnight M2/13"/16/512 on Friday, Apple says delivery on July 3rd, UPS shows June 29th.

I ordered the 15 inch M2 MBA with 16gb RAM on June 21 and was given a July 5 pickup date at the Apple Store. Last week the estimate changed to June 28 but got an email June 27 that is was ready for pickup.

I had not planned to buy any Apple gear this year but besides the MBA I bought a M2 Pro Mac Mini in March and two HomePod Mini in May. I swear no more major Apple purchases until the Vision Pro comes out next year.

I have used SSD's since about 2010 (dozens of them) and can guarantee you, you will not even have a clue there is a difference unless you have very specific needs and workflow. I use a 2017 MSI desktop with a NVMe that runs about 1500read - 1000 write. I also have a year old homebuilt PC with a NVMe that runs 3500-3000. In most cases you can not tell any difference. It is only if I am transferring a large (hundreds of GB's) amount of data that I can tell.

Do not worry about the speed unless you have specific needs. But in that case, I would not buy an Air. I have a PC with 3 monitors and 6 drives for work. This is not what I need the Air for. And I believe if you have the use case for a faster drive, you already know it and will get what you need.
