Damn. I ordered mine ~4:15 on Friday and had a working tracking number by 7:30.

Sweet...

Dell apparently makes their staff work on Sundays...

Its getting shipped from TN and UPS will ship it on Tuesday. Then again, hurricane Dennis may choose to delay it till Wednesday or later :(

Mine was also shipped to the carrier. Expected ship date yesterday was Thurs 7/14, with estimated arrival on 7/21.

Does anybody know if the soundbar that clips to the bottom of the display is worth getting? It would reduce clutter and be worth a few dollars to me if it sounds any good. I've seen them on eBay for something like $6 (plus exhorbitant shipping, of course).

Hows the Dell UltraSharp 19" LCD? The 2005fpw (20" WS) looks great, of course, but is just a TAD pricey for me to stay within budget... the 19" however, at $321 is perfectly priced for me. Anyone have one? I've used the 17" Dell LCDs at work a ton, just the regular models, not the UltraSharp, and have been pretty impressed with those (for the price level). I assume that the UltraSharp series look even nicer, especially with the DVI input?

This also appears to be a display that rotates into a portait mode? Not as useful on a standard aspect ratio disaplay, I'll admit, but useful for working on printed documents. Does the mini support the rotating feature?

This deal ends tomorrow, so I'm not sure if I will be able to snag one up before then, but there is usually some sort of special on the net somewhere for pretty close to that price.

Also, I wanted to point out that Dell's Outlite store has refurb 2005fpw or whatever they are called for $478 pretty much all the time. (400+ in stock at the moment). Not as great of a deal, but pretty good!

Anyways, any comment on the 19" UltraSharps?

There is a whole thread about the 19" 1905FP at the Apple forums, and people there seem to love the display.

There's also a big review of that monitor (1905FP) at AnandTech's website. Just check out monitors and you should see it under there; they seemed to really like it.

I got home and hooked up my new Dell 2005fpw monitor, and WOW! This thing is HUGE, and beautiful to boot. It came right up on my Mac mini, and everything was recognized right off with no fiddling. The default resolution of 1680x1050 looks great, and I have also tried 1344x840 (also widescreen 16x10 format). Like others have said, it does seem extremely bright and I may have to use Brightness Control to turn it down some, esp. at night; the only problem with Brightness Control is that it reverts to full brightness when coming out of screensaver mode.

I thought that I liked the Sony HS75P so much that nothing else would satisfy me, but I think that this Dell is just the ticket. Plus all that extra real estate, extra video inputs, PIP, a USB hub, and no glare. This monitor really is an excellent deal for anybody looking for this size of monitor, or even as a replacement for a 17" or 19" but with more space to the side, at only a small price premium (mine was only $50 more than the Sony 17" after rebates).

My 2005fpw just got delivered today at home, but I am at work (dang it!). Can't wait to get home and try it out tonight!

Mine came in today. Had company. Didn't get to play with it until a couple of hours ago.

Damn.

Is it deviant to be in love with a monitor???

Man today was hectic!

Last night (or should I say this morning) I went to sleep at 8am and then at about 11am my boss calls and tells me they need me at work. I went to work for a bit today from 12-3:30pm. I didnt have a ride to get back so I had to call my parents to pick me up. I got picked up at about 3:45 and got home at 4. In those 15 freakin minutes out of the WHOLE DAY the UPS truck came! Got home to see a UPS sticker on the door. I called UPS asked if I can pick it up somewhere and they said I could pick it up between 8pm - 9pm. So I was like great. Got to the UPS service station at 8, with my luck, the truck that was carrying my package was still doing its routes and they said it would be back in a bit. So I decided to wait... THIRTY minutes later it finally came and I finally got my monitor.

Anyways those my impression on the monitor is overall more negative than positive. Not that the screen isnt very nice looking or anything but I do have a few complaints.

- When staring straight at it, the corners seem to be dimmer. Obviously this is because there is a certain degrees you can look at the monitor before it will look less bright...?

-Im having a few troubles running the monitor on a few games I play. On all the games it has to auto position. Its not that its a bad thing, but its not cool when it positions it to the far right side everytime. So basically my screen is cut off and I have to manually position it again.

-On many of my games Im getting alot of ghosting. Then again, I do play FPS games, so I guess I should have been expecting this. Man I hope they make a widescreen with 8ms response time soon!

-Its made in mexico

-Finally I DONT THINK ITS BIG ENOUGH FOR MY NEEDS. I think I should have gotten the 24''! Kind of pisses me off because the vertical measurement is actually shorter then my 19'' CRT screen. I guess i should have read the specs more carefully.

However none the less though I must say this screen is definately far better then I have ever seen in stores for price and features. Maybe not the Samsung 930N because its 8ms. I love how many jacks there are on this monitor! I think I may hook up my PS2 on this! However anyone know a way to hook up the computer speakers to a PS2? I also love the extra USB ports. Having a shuttle PC Im limited to 4 USB ports, definately not enough for a PC gamer. The best part of this is that the screen can give off VERY vibriant colors and is EXTREMELY BRIGHT. In most monitors when you turn on the brightness the colors lose their quality I guess you could say. This monitor is definately one of the first I have ever seen NOT do that. It just brightens things up but still keeping the colors vibriant.

I was wondering guys, to the guys who bought one or have one of these screens..

On the 4 corners, do you guys see notice that the brightness isnt as bright as say in the center? On a completely black screen I could even see that the corners have a little I guess yellow hue...

I have the 2001 and a 2005, I haven't seen this problem on either of mine, but a sample size of 2 is not very large. If yours has a problem, send it back. My 2001 started making a whining noise. I called, they sent a replacement, I sent the old one back in the same box, no problems.

Well is your screen bright throughout the display? If that is considered "normal" I guess I can keep it. My screen is more or less flawless in every other way. NO stuck or dead pixel. Would hate to get a new one to find another flaw.

Also is shipping covered both ways?

i just got mine today. ordered it late wednesday night so basically only a day i had to wait....damn this monitor is awesome. especially @ half the price of the cinema display.

I agree 100%. I didn't really expect to like this display so much, what with the Dell name and the cheaper plastic case and all. But in reality, the plastic case looks much better that I had imagined, and has an aluminum band around the outside edge that makes the whole thing look a lot better than just black plastic alone. And the bezel is really narrow, much more so than many other monitors on the market. And then the display itself is gorgeous, very bright (too bright - I use Brightness Control to dim it), very vivid colors, and the extra width of a widescreen display. I love it!

Mine doesn't.

Gawd I love this thing. :)

If the resolution is 1280 x 1024, just buy a 17", they'l both have the same resolutions.

Mine seems to have consistent brightness over the entire display, no dark, light, or discolored spots.

On the replacment I got, shipping was covered both ways, there was a prepaid shipping label with the replacement. Any user servicable parts or replacements from Dell that I've done were always handled like that.

The replacement does have a stuck red (I think) pixel. The only time I notice it is when XP first loads up on the black screen, otherwise it blends in. That is a risk when you replace it.

There's more to it that resolution! While the available desktop space will be the same, size does matter. Just ask your girlfirend/wife. :)
