I waited a lot for these monitors to be locally available, they said it will be available in 6 weeks, this was 6 months ago (douche dell is probably still trying to sell the U2414Q's here)

I can't wait any longer, OSX's non-retina external display font-rendering is much below acceptable for me, I think I'm forced to buy one from Amazon or bhphotovideo (I constantly feel the need to re-design web related things and the awful fonts turn out to be the actual trigger)

Amazon is no longer sending the P2415Q to Turkey, it's backordered on bhphotovideo but bhphotovideo doesn't provide customs services or an international guarantee like Amazon (the P2715Q is internationally available on Amazon)

Has anyone any experience with 4K on 24" vs 27" displays?

When I extend my arm, I can almost touch the monitor, that's how far away it stands from me, and I'm very used to the 24" size, just can't decide whether a 27" upgrade would make things better or worse ...

I guess I'm mostly babbling but I would appreciate advice if anyone has any

Well I first purchased P2715Q from Amazon US, now discovered P2415Q is available from UK with 2-4 days delivery, so I re-ordered with joy

Quick questions:
1) MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) with GT750M, I'm 99% sure this will be able to drive a 4K monitor as an external monitor at 4K 60Hz, is this the case?
2) Is there a rev A01 on this monitor that I should be hoping to get? I don't want to spend 2-3 years with another rev A00 monitor

Is it very noticeable the difference in 163 vs 185 dpi for the 24 and 27" monitors, respectively? I'm trying to decide on either the 24 or 27 (I plan on buying two and hooking up to my MBP). I would like to use it at HiDPi 1440 or 1080p (will there be a performance hit if I run at HiDPi 1440), if that matters...

Anything else I should be concerned about?

Yep, it's a strange workaround, but it seems the only stable way to keep the monitor working properly at 51hz. my macbook pro 13" has no issues running the display with the dp cable only. just seems like a mac mini issue.
Hello again! My mac mini stopped accepting the dp+hdmi setup...don't know wtf happened but the mini only display image via hdmi now (so 4k 30z, no 52hz anymore). It stopped detecting the miniDp port... Is it still working for you? Really so disappointing this topic!
Do you remember any special thing to force the mini to detect the dp? Tried to force the nvram reset and this kind of stuff...and nothing...like if no display was plugged into the miniDp...
EDIT: Ok, I solved it by myself...ufff, two hours trying and trying...at the end unplugging all the power plugs and plugging again, made the mac to detect the dp again...so after 5 minutes, and thanks to switchresx, I have the 1080 HiDpi@52hz working again.
Big difference!

The yellowish tint seems to be uniform across the screen? Can you try playing with your colorprofiles? And you can also try playing with colors in the menu of the screen itself (my screen was a bit warm colored too, I turned down red and green by 2-3 and now it seems spot on). The best thing you could try is a calibrating tool like a Spyder. Most importantly in my opinion is uniformity of the picture!

So has anyone figured out if it's possible to run either monitor at 2560x1440 HIDPI (up from 1920x1080) on the late 2013 13" rMBP? Last I heard it wasn't really working, but I'm curious if that's changed at all.

I've been using the P2715Q now on my 2013 13" rMBP (Iris 5100) and it can only push a max of 30Hz 1080p (HiDPI), though I've heard some people pushing it to 51Hz at 1080p (HiDPI) with a custom SwitchResX tweak/resolution config.

It's fine for reading, by there's definitely cursor lag on 30Hz, definitely noticeable stepping down from 60Hz displays all your life. Yes, it's an annoying delay, but the 4x as many pixels of a normal 1080p display makes it all worth while, even on 30Hz imo.

I have a mid-2014 15" rMBP (Iris 5200 Pro) from work as well, and that has no issues pushing 60Hz at 1080p (probably the 'just-right' double resolution density, but you sacrifice screen resolution space for it), 1440p (small elements, I prefer 1080p HiDPI, shame really, because I was expecting to use 1440p HiDPI for months!), 1692p (very small elements) or 3160p (way too small) all in gorgeous HiDPI.

More info here between the 2013 and 2014 generations. http://www.everymac.com/systems/app...ok-pro-retina-display-late-2013-mid-2014.html If you want a 13" rMBP that can push 60Hz at 1080p or 1440p (or higher resolution) in HiDPI, you need the new 2015 models at minimum.

I ordered this P2715Q back on 9th July 2015, and it took like 4 weeks to arrive from Dell. :/ I also ordered two P2415Qs, and they still haven't arrived and it's almost 2 months since I've ordered! o_O I've also noticed Dell Australia has removed both the P2415Q and P2715Q from their website. I contacted sales support and then said they had P2715Q in stock, but weren't publishing it online, and they said to check back last Friday to see if the P2415Qs would be published back on the site. Seems like there's either a huge shortage of manufacturer parts (under supply) caused by huge demand at affordable prices, OR something is bad with the firmware / a component and it takes time to reveal itself.

Has anyone experienced huge months-long delivery delays ordering from Dell? (Maybe after going private, that was their fall to doom, i.e. Not being able to keep up with demand) I was hoping to compare the P2715Q and P2415Q side-by-side, but at this rate, it looks like I can't even do that. :( There have already been some comparisons made in this thread, but it's not the same as face-to-face size and appearance, even though the difference between the two is 8cm less/more diagonal physical screen dimension. lol

I paid like AUD $750 to Dell for the P2715Q, bargin, I managed to shave off like $129 off the RRP for it at the time. Since the AUD has weakened a lot since then, it now costs $899 from Dell, but I've seen prices on Amazon range from AUD $1430 - 1300, for this very same monitor! I'm starting to think Amazon would have delivered WAY quicker though. I honestly don't know why Dell is derping with their delivery speed. I emailed them, and they said it was delivered to a guy I didn't know and then they came back and said it was still with the courier and that it would be here last or this week, but my two P2415Qs still haven't arrived. :/ Looks like they have new 27" 1440p native thin bezel monitors now lol, and the P2715Q is back on the site. (They usually remove them when there's too much demand I think so they can keep up with suppling the orders). http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/sna.aspx?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&s=dhs&~topic=27-monitors

I've only had the Thunderbolt -> mDP connection randomly flicker around twice, but it's rare and I'm not sure if it's just my 13" MacBook Pro crapping out or not. Regardless, this P2715Q and P2415Qs make reading and typing a pleasure to do. :)

I'm still deciding whether it's best to just go with two P2415Qs instead, over a single P2715Q. There are a lot of times where I wish I had at least two external monitors. (Excluding in-built laptop monitor). I was going to give one to my Dad and one to my Brother, but they don't want it due to not using the computer much (Dad will probably jump on it maybe a couple hours a day, nevertheless, it would be TENFOLD better than the crappy vision-destroying HP 89ppi 1440x900 he has now) or 4k throwing Windows 7 scaling off (Brother using Windows 7).

It's a shame that my work only supports native 1080p externals, and they don't even have HDMI ports! Just VGA and DVI, and a lot of employees are still using VGA at Cisco! Crazy, right!

I received the P2415Q from Amazon UK

It's Rev A01, should I be worried, the latest Rev seems to be A03?

Rev A01 issue:
Once, macbook woke up on it's own and shrinked windows, after the monitor woke up, the windows were left shrinked, couldn't replicate it, it might be happening at long sleeps (2 seconds delay + shrinked windows was the aftermath)

Also, I tried various scalings with OSX, With U2413, fonts were awful, however with 4K, 2304x1296 also adopts the retina quality fonts, I couldn't differentiate the font rendering with a software Loupe, so you just need a Retina screen for good fonts but don't necessarily need to use a perfect scale

So my advice is, get the P2715Q, compared to my U2413, the P2415Q seemed small to me, if I could do it all over again, I would get a Rev A03 P2715Q from US and use it at the 2304x1296 resolution

The main reason is that the majority of the web sucks at Retina, yet the 2304x1296 resolution covers/suppresses the low-res image awfulness well, however with P2415Q, the pros didn't outweigh the cons - I don't regret it though, using 1080p is more humaine, since I'm an aspiring web designer, it's good to use a smaller resolution, closer to what an average person uses (1080p is the optimal resolution for 24" IMO, the scaled one is too small)
(On the bright side, I will upgrade to a 5K with a 27"/28" monitor with ease of mind whenever it's available)

P24/715Q Stand: Can't tilt negatively to the front, my U2413 was able to do this, for some reason I enjoyed it that way, the P2415Q stops at flatness, the U2413 stand seems compatible but I haven't tried it

I would be glad if someone can shed a light to my A01/A03 issue

Once again, it's good to remind Apple that we probably all go through this Dell stupidity for the anti-glare and the working/lighting flexibility it brings, I will hop off the Dell wagon the first chance I get, they screwed me with these sleep/wake issues too much

Edit: The cold wake up issue is unfortunately persistent, I'm doomed for 1-2 more years with another disturbing Dell issue, whenever the system wakes up from a long sleep the macbook monitor adopts the windows, shrinks them, the monitor kicks in, gets them back in shrinked form, I will probably try to program a keycap combo to use Moom to resize the windows back to full-size

Edit 2: Added the picture of the backlight bleeding, I like this monitor, I was expecting sleep/wake issues, yet I wish I didn't notice the backlight bleeding, especially the left-side is pretty disturbing during movies/tvshows as it's uneven and distracting

I don't want to go through an international return hassle, but I'm wondering whether it would be foolish not to

I'm enjoying my dual P2715Q monitors hooked up to my 2013 Mac Pro, but there seem to be major issues in BootCamp. I'm guessing it's poor drivers. I'm currently using the Apple BootCamp drivers. These monitors flicker constantly in Windows, but seem rock solid in OS X. Anyone else experience this, and able to get the monitors stable? I'm able to turn off one of the monitors, and use a single display with no issue, but going dual and they both start to flicker.

Wondering about a use case with 4K monitors. For those doing photo editing, are you leaving the resolution at full 4K, or using 4K Retina/HiDPI, or scaling somewhere in between? I am especially interested in how LR CC/6 works when doing scaling or HiDPI. Any and all feedback appreciated.

By the way, with P2415Q running at retina/2 - my mid-2014 macbook pro with GT750M uses the fans most of the time

Previously, the fans never engaged at these levels unless I was doing something intensive, but currently, they kick-in during browsing too

After getting used to the changes and various Dell issues/bugs it's worth it, just for the retina font rendering

I normally run mine scaled at 3008px across except when I fire up a photo editing session in Capture One Pro where I set them to native. I like the max real-estate and 1:1 pixel mapping. The controls are small but still usable.

Not sure how LR/CC deal with scaling, but C1P handles it as well as any other app, so I assume they will as well. I just prefer the native res for pixel peeping work. ;)

Understand. I have a used UP244Q coming next week to experiment with. I think 24" will be just too small. The wife and I are both used to 27" ATD. From what I read, 27" is a good size with 4K. Unless Dell changes products between now and EOY, I will be looking for two P2715 units around Black Friday through Cyber Monday. Can't wait to try LR at 4K with a monitor that is over 95% compliant to sRGB and Adobe RGB.

Yeah 4K native on 27" is usable but 24" would probably be pushing it in the eye strain dept. ;)

Does anyone have a recommendation for the best 27 inch range monitor for a 2015 Macbook Pro? I run dual monitors so I would like two of them. I am looking for the resolution to be at least what the retina display is on the actual Macbook. I have two 1920x1080 at 60Hz monitors that are hard to look at after using the retina display. There don't seem to be many great options.

What about two P2515Q units? Those seem to be at or near the top of the list for 27-28 inch IPS 4K monitors. They are $529 at Adorama.

I have two P2715Q displays on my desk attached to my rMBP, we have another rMBP with two BenQ BL2711U displays. I'm going to pawn off my Dells to one of my employees and get two of the BL2711U displays, since I'm the boss and I can. The BenQ is my choice now, but the P2715Q is also a nice option.

Given the BenQ units are around $120 more each and both products are doing sRGB, what is there about the BenQ displays that make them worth the extra cost?

I'm interested in this workaround. Anyone have a link or more details on how to use SwitchResX to accomplish this?

I messed around with it a bit and was unable to get satisfactory results.

Thanks!

We're using them for CAD and other illustration work. Comparing the BenQ to the Dell, for the BenQ, he clarity of text and graphics is IMHO "better"/preferable in both low- and mid-light environments, the glare control is "better", the responsiveness of the display appears faster with less ghosting. That's the consensus in our office for those who've used both displays.

My additional preferences are the automatic rotation of the display; I rotate at least one of my displays several times each day - they're mounted on arms so I can't comment on the stands. I also really like the several display "modes" for different types of work - office, drawing/drafting. The BenQ is also more "Mac friendly" as in I didn't have to futz with settings and the like as others (and I) have related - bit**ed, rather - in this very thread. HDMI 2.0 is a bonus IMHO. I'm keeping a reserve for Black Friday and will be cruseing for a sale...

Copy on Black Friday. My UP2414Q should be delivered next Tuesday. So let the games begin. I got a set of JBL Pebbles speakers for the monitor. They are surprisingly good for the $35 cost.

If we like 4k, especially for photo editing in LR, Santa will have to make room in his brown truck for two 27-28" monitors.

Hello,

I have received some messages asking me how to config the DELL P2415Q to work in 1080p HiDPi.

I have it working at 1080 HiDPi @ 50 Hz in a MacBook pro 13 retina 2013.

I will give you directly my .plist working file, you just have to copy it in:

/System/Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-10ac

Just unplug and plug the monitor and select 1920x1080, it should be working in HiDPi (yours eyes will know it quickly :D !!! )

Remember that this trick will change the name of the monitor for OSX ( it will say U28D590). (It doesn't matter, but if anyone have a .plist with the right name please share)

It works also in El Capitan GM Candidate :)
