Relax, first and foremost if the MBP is fully functioning then what it looks on the outside isn't that important.

Why not just put the MBP in a case and you'll not see the dents?

...kiss a girl...

Hope she doesn't have zits.

OP, you could spend way too much money to get the cover replaced, spend alot less to cover the scratch. spend nothing and deal with it, or spend the money on a few counselling sessions to come to grips with your OCD...this, in the long run is likely your cheapest option. Good luck.

No need to say anything about the father..

How is one to know that you have any mental health issues.

I wouldn't call it an issue since i get A's and B's but I just write crap... oh and the doctors know what they are saying.

By the same token, there's no need for any of us to reply at all - but the OP put it in play.

Several posts have mentioned that it isn't worth paying to fix the dent - but the OP wasn't asking whether he should get it fixed, only how much it would cost. He then mentioned that dad would be paying to repair the damage. My addressing that fact is no more off-topic than the others.

Nah I've given up on getting it fixed seems pretty expensive will just get a case and cover it up.

What I would do..

I have been in metal cutting and forming business in the past. Doing a damage assessment based on the picture you have provided, I think you have some options here to fix it.

The dent in the picture tells me that most of the energy has been absorbed by the lid, - not by the frame. This looks good because the "unibody frame" may have no real dent damage at all (which is the most expensive part).

I would look for a used lid cover and replace it myself. Once you open the computer you will see what the damage of the frame really is. Disassemble the whole thing. Once you have replaced the lid, the frame may just have to be grinded a bit to get the scuffs out. After that, apply some silver finish paint and you are done. It will not be perfect, but way better then your current situation.

Alternative to the paint, you may want to check out some metal cutting businesses at your location. If you are lucky, they have a deburring machine. With that you would come closer to the original condition and spare you the grinding job.

This is what deburring looks like:

Don't know how well you are connected to machine shops and such. Ask around, maybe someone at your family can help you with that or has connections..

good luck

It'll cost more than half of what a new laptop would cost you. Perhaps even 3/4 of a new laptop.

I would just try to live with it until you get a new laptop.

Find a nice case to cover up your ugly dent. A lot cheaper than having it fixed.

THANK YOU this is what I meant!

No probs. Best advice is to sell it, and buy a new one if it bothers you that much. Or claim on your household insurance.

Or view it as a kind of therapy... It's the only one in the world with that exact dent/collection of scratches. It has a history and past which is more than most people can say about their perfect, pristine, and faceless laptops. Embrace the damage, it's yours and it works.

I scratched a brand new bike after 2 weeks. It slid down the wall and I was gutted for a while but it passed. It now reminds me not to do stupid things!

Good luck and take care.
