Why doesn't Apple just hold off with all annoucements of a new phone, until they actually have something new? :) How low do they want the stock value to sink to? Hoping for a miracle, but not getting good vibes!

But 50+million did. Glass half empty or half full?

Emptying.

Something just came to mind - what if Apple decides to move from a 2-year refresh cycle to a 3-year one instead? So they use the same iPhone form factor for 3 years instead of 2?

Why? The S6 was disappointing for Samsung, and the S7 looks practically identical, but has turned sales around.
Well you've got a point there, but in Apple's case this will be the third year with what would appear to most people to be the "same" phone.
Some people might see that as Apple simply offering the same old same old year after year.

Based on all the rumours lately it looks like it'll be 3 years for the iPhone 6 design.
And the iPhone 5 form factor lives on after, what, 4 years?
Guess it's just too much effort for the gruesome twosome (Tim & Jony) to come up with new designs. Or the poor bastards just don't have the money to do so.

I like the 6s form factor...although there are days I miss my one handed 5s. It's the guts of the phone that matters to me though.

True, but when I mentioned to a few friends "The new iPhone is announced tomorrow" they said things along the line of "What, already? I swear they announced a new one like 6 months ago?"

If Apple does have a big upgrade in the works, and is going to put into practice one or two of it's more interesting patents, then I think we're okay to wait for them to be ready. In the meantime, a thinner, faster iPhone can't hurt - with presumably other features that haven't leaked (yet).
