David Yun thinks Apple made some big mistakes with iOS 7 from a design / usability perspective and also from a brand perspective.

“It has a lot less to do with the design community and more to do with the constant drive to sell new products,” Yun explained. “That said, the intention of iOS 7 is completely valid. It’s the execution and the qualities of that execution that are in question. Here’s hoping for a closer look at those qualities in iOS 7.1!”

If Dieter Rams the legendary designer at Braun (which is Jony Ive's inspiration and hero) had something bad to say about the design of iOS 7 I'd understand. Looking at David Yun's work I'd hardly call him a guru. It seems like he just wants a little attention.

It's like many thread starters..... They all want a little bit of attention.....

And designers are just that...controversial, eccentric and attention seeking.... That's what gets them in news and famous... Same design shown to two designers, will evoke diametrically opposite and passionate ramblings...to create maximum attention seeking headlines....

Must say the thread punch line does grab attention, so 10/10 for the effort.... Well done old chap....

Why are people even discussing this anymore? If you like IOS 7 great! If not don't use it or revert back to IOS 6 or go Android. Just stop this, it's annoying. (not referring to people on this forum in particular, just in general).

You can't go back to iOS 6. That's the thing. I for one hold off to update until they at least sort out those horrible icons for the stock apps. They all look they were "designed" by different people using different design guidelines!

They can make them better. Just look at the new icon set of the iLife and iWork apps. Those actually look consistent AND nice and new.

So how is this guy a "designer Guru"? His credentials are just OK. If he has made anything important lmk

I read online you could revert back to IOS 6.1.3 using iFaith. Don't know if its true though.

Ha! I read this on the Forbes web site, and looked him up. It's the first thing I thought when I saw his web site. Glass houses comes to mind.

No wait, you guys don't understand. That is a high-end designer website and its refreshing and pioneering style will go mainstream before we know it.

Complete farce. I can't believe Forbes would publish such drivel.

Professional vehicle engineers: More Displacement and torque > high revving.
Another engineer: high revving and hp > less displacement.

circuit engineer: more instructions per clock!
another engineer: no, more clock speed!!

Economist: more regulation
another economist; less regulation!

Ecologist: Global warming!
Another ecologist: Just natural earth warming/cooling cycle

It's even more ridiculous when your talking something as silly and opinion based as art/design style.

He actually echoed most of my complaints here in the forums.

I like most of iOS 7, especially under the hood. The boundless text buttons suck. The colors too much - I feel like it's a coordinated marketing ploy for the 5c.

But there are beautiful pieces too, contact cards are refreshing. Compass is beautiful. I enjoy mail usability improvements and praise more than 8 tabs in Safari every day. I love the way the UI opens up to a background photo.

Criticism isn't a hatred of iOS 7, it's an act of love to hope it improves beyond its shortcomings.

I don't think iOS 7 really looks like Android. Google's platform cannot execute the amount and intensity of Gaussian blurs. I still think it's an abomination and an eyesore, but that's just one opinion. Flat is a trend, though, and it'll pass.

I don't think people talk about the blur effect when they point out similarities between Android's Holo Light interface and iOS 7.

And speaking of gaussian blur layers and "glass effects" - these were lifted straight out of Windows Vista's Aero interface. Yeah, remember Vista? You know, Vista - 3 years of cheapshot commercials from Apple's gigantic marketing budget? Yeah, that Vista. Just 4 years later, we have now come full-circle!

It is my opinion that iOS 7 is HEAVILY inspired by other OS UIs - certainly a bit of a shock to see this from Apple.

My biggest issue with iOS 7 is not that it borrows, everyone borrows (though iOS 7 is kind of pushing it) it's that despite reusing familiar user-interfaces they managed to introduce so many usability issues, regressions and just plain sloppy implementations! This is not the old Apple - Notification Center may have been "inspired" by another OS but it was well-executed! And while artificially-limited due to all its sandboxing, it worked!

In many places, iOS 7 doesn't work, and I'm just shocked that Apple would release this OS this year rather than wait another year till it's somewhat competent.

what totalitarian sate do you live in where discussion is forbidden?

Did you by any chance read "people must stop talking about this" or something like that?

I asked that question because IOS 7 has been out for some time and people have had time to bash or praise said OS. Just some people keep whining about the same thing over and over again, and THAT'S annoying.

Did that clear things up?

Unless David Yun is Sir David Yun, Sir Jonny Ive gets my vote of confidence. :)
