As a designer, I can tell you that these projects usually start like this: I have a weird idea that would be cool to explore. Oh, what if I did this too? And this? Ok now I feel like it's done but for people to take me seriously I need to say it's about globalization or some crap and make up some random ass explanation for why it's so weird. Posted and done.

But maybe that's just me. Sometimes you just want to make something because it's weird or unique and hasn't been done before. Or because it makes you happy. And that's probably why I'll never be a famous designer. I don't play these stupid games. Why can't we design things just because we like them sometimes?

That being said, some of these are cool and would make for nice framed prints.

I think it's quite a nice idea and a good way to get people to engage with technology and manufacturing processes etc.
I am super curious how you think a mac made of honeycomb would get people to "engage with technology and manufacturing." Like, how? Why would they? Nothing about this is relevant in any way to technology or manufacturing. Who exactly do you think this would engage in technology? Bees?

I think it's quite a nice idea and a good way to get people to engage with technology and manufacturing processes etc.

Does it actually do that, though? Or it that just achieved through the attention conceptual art pieces inevitably generate, by being generically controversial? Is anything worth talking about actually encapsulated in the thing itself? Does its physical form even represent a succinct enough idea to be considered a useful and coherent point on the topic?

What an interesting concept! Very artistic slow news day and should initiate a healthy dialog! At least it’s something slow news day different than what’s on ATV+ or Apple’s homepage. How neat!

I’m not sure if what I’m seeing here is a waste of artistic talent or a lack of it.
Lack of it.

Nothing here enhances the viewer’s life. The explanation is vital, as reason is not apparent, yet entirely unhelpful (it’s made of honey because ... globalization?). It’s self-serving by abusing memes (“Apple!”) to make people talk about it, with no meaningful outcome. Big time sink for society.

At least the Dada period was legitimately exploring the boundaries of “what is art?” An obsolete tool made of non-sequitur materials is not art, even if there is a long buzzword-riddled explanation next to it.

It's an art piece. It's a strange thing for MacRumors to report on and I imagine this comment section is going to be an absolute disaster, judging by previous similar threads, but I think it's quite a nice idea and a good way to get people to engage with technology and manufacturing processes etc.
You know, I remember when I first got into Macs back in the 1990's? the community was mostly creatives, hippies and outsiders. In other words, Liberal Arts majors ;-) Dunno what to think lately but the cultural center of the Mac community has definitely shifted over the past decade or longer.

I think this is an interesting art piece... not for everyone but why do folks get so up in arms about these kind of stories? They seem to be actively (and willfully) refusing any opportunities to take a step back, experience something different. If its not for you, move on. Its just art. really.
