So OSX designates drives as being internal or external, presumably based on which bus they are connected to. I wonder if there is any way to override this, and set a drive that is connected to an external port to show up as internal for management purposes?
Thanks!
In my case I find it disturbing that one drive is yellow and one is gray (and has the real icon of a hard drive) when both are internal. I am completely fine if an external has different color. I have one SSD on a pci-e-card to get highest speed, and that one is yellow.

Has anyone came up with a solution to this post. With the 2020 iMac, you can no longer replace the internal drive with a larger one. I want to put "Bootcamp" on an external drive with the Mac OS. I have successfully install the Big Sur on an external Thunderbolt 3 M.2 enclosure and now my read and write speeds are double from what I was getting with the internal drive.
