I believe I've discovered the problem and it appears to be an issue with using PowerISO to burn the image file.

This is another confirmed instance of PowerISO failing to create valid Mac installer discs. I think the only known option is to properly convert the .dmg to .iso using dmg2img (Download win32 binary) and then burn using your usual Disc burning software like Nero or whatever Windows uses nowadays. Or re-download the software in .iso format and try again.

I don't know why PowerISO market themselves as the only solution for burning .dmg files if the discs are made non-bootable. Maybe that's a feature which is unlocked when you buy a license.

Another option would be copying the .dmg files of Tiger to the G4 with Mac Os 9.2, place the .dmg images at the Desktop and then burn them in CDs using the CD-RW of G4, right?

Except OS9 does not support .dmg files. There is a beta of Disk Copy (6.5b3, IIRR) which can open uncompressed .dmg images but OSX images are usually compressed.

You could try with Toast 5.2.3 but I think you are likely to end up with coasters. You really need OSX to burn these.

It's alive!

So after some weeks I finally came back to the countryside house where I have my fathers iMac g4 and managed to install Mac Os x 10.4 thanks to a previous CD burning using a 2008 iMac.

Thank you all for your help! This was a truly challenge! And actually it made me discover the beauty of this iMac G4 to an extent that I have just bought a 17" edition in a second hand shop for just 100€ that I will be working at during the next weeks! :D

But coming back to my fathers G4, I have installed all kind of updates and now run with 10.4.11. I managed to install a Photoshop CS 2 version that runs perfect. The general perception of the system is flawless, it runs very smooth thanks to the ram upgrade I made (1G right now). The only aspect lagging could be web browsing... Despite the several Java updates I made, it seems that Safari won't load many webs "because the site is not secure" (?¿).

So do you guys have any recommendation regarding web browsing? I have checked and there's no support of Chrome for 10.4.11 thus I have to stick to Safari.

Thanks!

TenFourKit is WebKit 533.21.1 for Mac OS X 10.4, which hasn't been updated since 2012, but it works pretty well for many sites. It's certainly better than Safari 4.1.3 and loads in a snap even on low-end G3s/G4s.

On a G3 or G4 running Tiger, I will typically try this version of WebKit first, then if it fails I'll click on TenFourFox and wait for it to startup :)

EDIT: Added download link to TenFourKit.
