Nonsensical clickbait testing. Of course a phone can be broken, duh. Phones seldom get dropped from 6 feet, they get dropped from 2-4 feet. I have dropped my uncased 13-14-15 iPhone Pros many times to concrete, net result being scuffed edges, sometimes; never broken.
So if we drop a YouTube reviewer on their head from six feet, will they break? Asking for a friend.

all glass breaks if you do something to it! I don't believe to all of the fancy names that tech company came up with for their glass.

One drop since owning iPhones without a case since 2007 is 2+2? Your math is way off.
One drop did all that damage? I was a decade long no case user until recently. The bumper case is a godsend. It's minimal, shock absorbent, and keeps the camera and glass from making contact when the ground on drops.

Apple glass about as durable as plastic! They want broken screens as it’s another revenue source for them.
ironically, plastic is way more durable than glass from a shatter point of view.

Despite the name, bulletproof glass is made out of layers of polycarbonate and acryllic.

My 4S, 5c, 6S and SE (3rd Gen) have all had screen protectors and rubber cases. And when they drop (rarely), they've always managed to land, face down, on the tile floor! Not a single screen cracked. My SE, however, is having an issue with the screen protector bubbling in the upper right corner, it's cracked in the lower left and the haptic home button (no protection) now has a crack. First physical damage any iPhone I've ever owned has gotten. Not worried about the screen protector, though. Not looking forward to a "homeless" (no home button) iPhone, though. Wish a home-button iPhone was always an option. I've been using the home button, since my first iPod Touch! How will I ever adapt to all those funky swipe gestures ye gotta do, to do what the home button was used for? Ugh! Even my wife sometimes forgets what gesture to use on HER iPhone! 😧

Used 7 plus for 8 years. Now after 5 days I do not miss the home button at all. You could also use a vocal shortcut

My last iPhone with a home button was my 8 Plus. I had that for 5 years and then traded up to my current iPhone 13PM. I had the same worries about losing the home button, but I forgot about "my need" for the little round devil within a week, and now I could never go back after over two years. Every time I try to do something on my wife's SE, it really puts my memory to the test. After awhile, you'll feel like you've been set free, because the "funky swipe gestures" as you call them, let you do so much more. Not only that, the extra screen real estate is very nice.;)

Depends on the person. I don’t use a case, and my phone is fine. My parents both have cases and they somehow manage to shatter the glass about once a year.

For every new iPhone iteration, Apple says it has improved the new screen resistance from the previous one. After 16 models, an iPhone should have the resistance of Adamantium or Captain America shield.

Lol, so true. Tired of hearing about how the screen is X amount strong than before. Clearly it's not. I really don't care about break resistance, I want SCRATCH resistance so I don't have to use a screen protector

I'm curious, I'm sure screen protectors are great for accidental scratches, but does anyone really know if they help at all for shattering due to a drop? Seems to me the same energy is still reaching the display.

Sure, they help a lot - at making the screen MORE likely to break. A glass screen "protector" adds a layer of glass to the phone, glass that's EXCELLENT at transmitting shock to the screen itself, and by adding thickness makes it more likely that the screen will experience a shock.

The ONLY valid reason to put a screen 'protector' on your phone is if you need one of the privacy polarizer ones to make it harder for somebody to shoulder surf you. The clear ones are worse than worthless.

Well, if that is true, and not just your opinion, my wife's phone screen would be obliterated by now. She has demolished 7 screen protectors since she got her SE2 and there is not one scratch or crack on her screen proper. I have totaled 3 screen protectors over the years, and not one scratch or crack on the screens being protected.

Sometimes I miss the old Nokia phones that could be used as a beer opener and would hold charge for a week. And didn’t cost me 3-4 hours of my life each day. 🙄
I really don't understand the Nokia nostalgia.

Sure, you could use them as a weapon. But the sound quality was HORRIBLE. Every time I talked to somebody with one I'd always ask "You've got a Nokia, don't you?" And they'd always wonder how I knew. It was because they sounded like crap.

Never had that problem with an old Motorola or Panasonic.

Nah.

A good plastic would be FAR more durable than glass.

But the best solution would be a sacrificial glass digitizer that isn't bonded to the display panel. $10 for a new digitizer (or $50 if you're stupid enough to pay the Apple tax for parts), 5 minutes swapping it, and you're good as new.

There's an opportunity for 3rd party display replacements: Unbonded digitizer and display panels. Do it once, and you won't have to replace the whole display ever again. Smart people would even do it before the screen breaks, then they could put the original Apple panel back on when it's time to sell the phone to some idiot who only wants Apple OEM parts.

Sorry, but you're just wrong. Screen 'protectors' are thinner and far more fragile glass than the screen itself, none of the breakage you've seen would have damaged the phone screen at all. You may have avoided a few scratches, but probably not.

You got lucky that the phone wasn't damaged by the 'protector' transmitting the shock.

Well, OK...but that's just another opinion. I know what my experience is, and I've used screen protectors since my first iPhone and No Cracks or Scratches. Lucky, or good protection...I don't care.;)

It is you that is wrong though. Tempered Glass screen protectors are constructed of glass that has undergone chemical treatment to increase its hardness and durability. They are made to deflect impact, distributing the force and lowering the possibility of phone screen breaks or cracks. This is my experience.:)

What is the best screen protector?

That depends on your budget, your device, your risk tolerance, and your aesthetic expectations.

For most people, a tempered-glass protector will be the best choice, because it offers the highest level of damage prevention and has a smooth touch. It's more expensive than the other options, and you'll probably notice a slightly altered look to your phone screen, but if damage control is your goal, get a tempered glass protector.

Apple makes tons of money in Apple Care, they are a Trillion Dollar company, not foolish enough to put unbreakable or nearly unbreakable glass in their iPhones. They might spin different names like retina screen but will never make it fall proof.

Samsung foldable in this respect not an issue since the screen is not made of glass. Drop test may not matter. This is probably one of the reasons to consider Flip or Fold than normal glass slabs

You must use those $5 Chinese screen protectors then.

My iPhone shattered when falling out of my trousers pocket on the street. There was a tiny stone on the street and the display fell flat on it. Glas is glas….
Will always use screen protectors now.
When my son got his first iPhone (15 based model), first thing I did was to put Tempered Glass and then gave it to him! In few days after he got his iPhone 15, he accidentally dropped off his iPhone from his pants on the street and fortunately his tempered glass alone broke and I again replaced it, instead of replacing the screen!

Though I generally keep my mobiles safe and take extra care, still I put a good case and a screen guard or a tempered glass without fail, as soon as I open the box. My mobiles survived many small drops without any hint of scratch
