I seem to recall there were several articles saying he was drunk and left it. Why else would he leave something so important?

I seem to recall reading that he was eating dinner at his favorite pub with his uncle, whom had taken him out for his birthday, at which point the bag in which the sacred 4G iPhone was carried was knocked over, and thus the iPhone fell out.

I do not, however, ever recall reading anything alluding to him being 'buzzed' 'hammered' or 'drunk'. I know, it's crazy, but sometimes people do go out to sports bars and such places and not get rip-roaring plowed, but it I assure you, it happens. Just like occasionally people misplace things in public locations. Just like occasionally unscrupulous bastards scoop up misplaced items with the intention of making a quick buck, by selling ill-begotten goods to scumbag technobloggers.

No, there were no articles that said that.

In the Mountain View/Silicon Valley area???? Have they got that far yet?

It was Redwood City. Caltrain runs through the area. Or he may have gotten a ride, or he may have taken a cab, or he may have taken a bus, or, most likely (since there is zero evidence to the contrary), he was not drunk.

I keep reading posts where some people think this guy was drunk or that he was not careful enough and thus lost his phone. The only thing I have that I truly take care of and try not to lose is my wallet. I seriously try to be as subconciously aware of it as often as I can. Nevertheless, I have lost 2 wallets in the past few years and I have been sober both times. It happens. The first was while on a CTA bus in Chicago and the second was in a Taco stand. Both times I thought I had put my wallet in my pocket but am pretty sure it fell out since I tend to carry too much stuff in my pockets(pens, change, iPod, flash drive, headphones, phone, etc...) So yeah, it's plausible to lose very important items regardless of how drunk or sober you are. We are only human.
