Yes but any $30 second or third hand hand Airport Express linked to your normal stereo can do that... not really worth spending so much on the Homepod...

How much did you spend on your home theater that many people don't have?

Soundbars are outselling home theaters. The home theater market (HiFi) has been dropping for years, so obviously that setup is not favored by consumers. This leaves room for the HomePod, much like there is a large market for Bose and Sonos.

I'm so looking forward to having Siri, Alexa, and Cortana lined up in my bedroom yearning and pleading for my attention!

Seriously, why no male names?

I am not seeing the need for this since I have 3 Alexa echos and don't use Apple for music.

I have only 1 Echo, and I dont know if it's worth replacing for a HomePod. I am a bit curious to compare the 'final' privacy policies of each. I am a 'little' concerned with the privacy policies of the Echo and I worry over time that it will become a lot looser with my data.

According to the article:" The HomePod might see a limited launch of approximately 500,000 units available."

This is going to sell out within minutes. But it looks promising with its capabilities and being it can be controlled through various iOS devices. Perhaps using my Apple Watch to control the music through my HomePod, bliss.

That’s the only part of the article I disagree with. I seriously doubt this will be a limited launche because on the hardware side the device is ready right now. It’s the software they’re still working on. There is absolutely o reason for Apple to have shortage on this device at launch unless it’s a world wide launch like they do with some of their other devices.

Fingers crossed it supports more than 1 iCloud account. No use if I setup it up with my Apple Music and my wife cannot use it for hers as well.

I won't hold my breath, because the ATV doesn't allow this without signing out of an account and into another which is a show stopper.

Any reason you and your wife not using family share? Also on Apple TV it’s very easy to switch accounts, you don’t even have to type your account info in after the first time. Just go to the settings and switch it. Fast switching has been there a very long time now.

This thing is just so generic looking. It would fit right in at Walmart - where is the design magic?

Does this mean I could use lets say two homepods and use them as my Mac's external speakers? (I'm looking for a replacement for my Soundsticks :))

Because that is when they are releasing them.

Because AI power assistants are the new frontier in computing interaction. Amazon wants you to get everything from the Echo ecosystem. From your news to food to music to texting or video calling friends to controlling everything on your house. And they are close to achieving this.

It is now or never for Apple and Google. And with Amazon Echo Dots running $49 to $0 depending on the deal, Apple and Google are worried. Google just announced a new low end Home device to try to compete. And Apple is very late to the party.

No German release. Zero interest.

One thing I loved about Apple with Steve Jobs was, after a announced of a new product it was buyable.
Now with Tim Cook we have to wait months to get it.

There's a white background on the iPhone picture. That doesn't seem like something Apple would have put into place. Surely they have high-quality images with transparent backgrounds. Suspicious.

New default wallpaper when we hit GM? That's definitely not the beach from the iOS 11 betas :O

The iPhone came out a few months after under Steve...? I hate the wait too but I do like that they show off the hardware so people can start talking about it/considering it.

This is something I am waiting to see also. We have an Apple Music account that has family sharing enabled for me, my wife, and several children. I certainly don't want my wife's and children's music choices affecting my Apple music recommendations. The Apple TV account issue is one that irritates me. Why can't Apple have an account selection screen similar to the Netflix app on Apple TV where the user can choose their account each time they use the device?

It appears that you are not in the target audience. I think that is why you don't see a "need". How much do you "need" Alexa echoes?

I think you're missing the point of HomePod. What would you need Apple Watch for when the HomePod gives you complete hands-free, voice controlled access to everything on all of your iOS devices?

Do we know why december? Speaker is not that difficult compared to other devices to make. Software not ready?
The manufacturer of HomePod reportedly stated that they are having production or yield difficulties. But it's not clear which component(s) are troublesome.

I'm not missing the point. The Article actually mentions It will be compatible through other iOS devices. I'm just exercising the option that you can likely can control your music through your Apple Watch with the HomePod based off the Wi-Fi capabilities, if someone chooses too (And if it's entirely possible). It's merely more of an ecosystem connection to your other iOS devices. But I certainly understand that is primarily going to used based off voice commands and the built in display as well.

The point of the HomePod is dead simple setup and ease of use with voice control. Airport wireless linking is too complicated, prone to interference and unreliable for many users.

I use family sharing. Not sure how that solves the issue of having only 1 active library. If I open music on ATV it's my library.

Using iOS 11 I have access to all of my girlfriends playlists through Apple Music that I can add to my library and vice versa. If you don't use Apple Music then it looks like you will be doing Airplay till further notice, which is a shame.
