I like the removal of the orange on the button (even though orange is one of my fav colors).

As far as the rest; side by side I find it difficult to see the difference in finish between the ultra and the S7 natural Ti. To me they both have a brushed finish so I would forgo that part.

If anything you could use the green part of those kitchen sponges to 'brush it out' a bit.

I like it. The two things I don't like about my watch is the Orange action button and the ring on the crown.

Interesting. I actually think rugged watches have always been a part of luxury horlogerie. I used to wear Rolex Submariner and Luminor Panerai and both are substantially more sport-looking, yet they are renowned as class-defining pieces. Here in Europe it’s more about the material and precision. One glance of an experienced eye on the Ultra and you can instantly tell this is a well crafted titanium machine. I wore it today with a 3-piece suit and I think it worked way. Orange button? Well, it’s not as screaming as in pictures, looks more metallic and anodized. So I guess it’s all about man’s confidence.

First, I think there is nothing wrong with the way the Ultra looks for its intended market. Rugged sport watches should look like this. And they pretty much all do. The things I dislike about the Ultra have practical reasons for being. I used to wear a humongous Garmin sport watch for running.

BUT…I was never wanting to wear my Garmin to work or out on a date. And I don’t think I’ll ever want to wear this Ultra whenever I’m dressing up either.

There are 5 things I hate about the design when I consider wearing it as a normal everyday watch. The ”tallness”, the hunchback which is the crown guard, the holes everywhere, the orange button, and the finish which looked like Starlight aluminum. There is nothing that can be done about the first 3 but the last 2 are solvable.

I got out my trusty Dremel this morning and forever rid the watch of that nasty orange on the action button. Then I proceeded to give the watch a brushed finish like my old Series 5 Edition has. It may not be to everyone’s liking, but I gotta say, I’m really liking my Ultra more after this.

I still won’t ever wear it with a suit, but I’m more likely now to use it when going out and about in town in jeans.

Nice work :)
After some time when my Ultra gets damaged from hiking and climbing on my couch, and wading through treacherous lines at Macca's, I will prob. do the same 😇

Love how elegantly you managed to get rid of all that orange. When I think of tame, neutral colors that can play nice with a wide variety of outfits and watch bands, bright neon orange is not one of those colors.

I think this is one of the design choices that reflects Apple’s intended use for this watch. “International orange” is hi viz, so it’s helpful in certain conditions. The office? Not so much I suppose 🤣😂

In person I think the orange button is rather muted. Photos online made it seem more noticeable.
But I still wouldn't mind getting rid of it as I like to wear my watches with the crown facing the other way "upside down"

I looked at pictures first and thought, "wow, that's terrible finish, what the hell is happening to Apple's QC these days?". Then I read the rest of the post ;)

That looks great now! A massive improvement.

How easily did the hideous orange come away? Did you have any concerns about shavings getting into the microphone or speaker or was it a pretty clean process?

I kinda don't get this. ANY computer watch, Apple or otherwise, will look dorky. You might as well be wearing a Casio calculator watch. If you want to look businesslike or go out on a classy date, get a real watch, like a Rolex or something. Me, I embrace the dork and use my Apple watch in all situations.

The Apple Store.

They are genuine Apple bands BUT they are long gone. So it’s not possible to purchase them any more unless you can find some on the used market.
Ah, the woven nylon. Such a good band. That and the classic buckle were the best, and they killed them on the same day!

Great work with the Watch, looks way better.

Well at least it has AOD.

I put off getting an AW until S5 when AOD was introduced. I didn't like the idea of wearing some big black slab on my wrist.

Interesting modifications, but it’s not something I’d do.
To be fair I bought the Ultra as I liked the styling, and I’ll wear it for casual and smart happily.
I do agree the straps are maybe not the smartest, but I’ve got all my previous straps so happy.

I think there are degrees. The AW Ultra is particularly badly matched to a suit with its bulk and orange highlights.

Vey OT...but one side effect I really enjoy about remote work is the killing off of the idea of "Business casual", boring polos and khakis. It would be great if it extended to shirts w/ties and suits.

I wear mine with a suit with this watch band.

Probably because it just won’t fit in the overall outfit and most likely stand out as this large thing on your wrist
You mean this average sized (pushing on the smaller side) watch. Even at 53mm I wouldn’t call it large. Also, Ultra looks more premium than any other AW including Edition models. Finally we are much closer to real watch.

“well crafted titanium machine” is exactly what Ultra is. You nailed it.
