Hi All,

We have a patch out soon for a few minor issues some users have reported.

- Fixes an audio track issue that was affecting the final video of the game
- Fixes an issue that was affecting the right-click function on trackpads
- Fixes a graphical error that occurred on some models in the AMD 4000 series of graphics cards
- Improves support for third-party mice, keyboards and graphics tablets

The HD3000 card is not OFFICIALLY supported however the game will run on minimum settings on the HD3000 without a problem. We have completed the game many times on the HD3000 just the performance is not quite good enough (same with the 320M) so instead of having people complaining and disappointed about the odd stutter and extended loading times on these cards we dropped them from the supported list. They will however run on these cards and for your average gamer you should have a very enjoyable experience taking into account the underpowered nature of those cards.

The high end cards like the 6000 series AMD the Mac performance should be pretty close to the PC (in some cases faster, in some slower). I find the FSAA/Filtering options in OpenGL tend to have more of a hit (both in performance and VRAM usage) compared to DX, same thing is true with resolution.

If you have a 27" iMac and have issues try disabling FSAA as it makes little if any difference visually if you are playing at native resolution, the other option would be to have FSAA on but drop your resolution to 720p. Either of these are not visually noticeable and should give you a major boost in performance.

I monitor macrumors for any big issues but if you have a bug please just drop our support an email, Gerard or one of the support team will have a look into your issue. Support answers at Feral are not cut/paste from a spreadsheet, granted some solutions will be cut paste to save us from carpel tunnel but the person pasting usually wrote the answer in the first place. :) If you have something strange it gets investigated throughly by the technical people who made the game on the Mac.

We really care about making great "Mac games" not "Games that run on a Mac" so let us know via support or Facebook if you have feedback.

If you are looking the Extra Trailers, Documentary, Music etc it can be found in the Advanced Tab in the pre-game Options panel. They have been formatted for the Mac with full metadata, album art etc. They are all in iOS compatible formats so will sync to your iPad or iPhone. The Mac version has all the DLC and pre order bonus extras pre installed, this all in one version is Mac exclusive (for now).

Thanks for all the feedback good and bad,

Edwin

Love the game

Playing the game and loving it. I'm still on the first (Sarif Warehouse) level, haven't killed anyone and will try to get through the entire game without killing anyone.

The 1.0.1 Patch is live for all Digital customers apart from the AppStore.

AppStore patch has been submitted and will go live once it has been approved by Apple.

The patch fixes the following reported problems.

Apparently, Wacom has the same or similar bug in their drivers, because my Apple mouse did not work until I disabled the tablet drivers.

<sarcasm>
I'm curious, how come that only Deus Ex, a single app, caused all these bugs to surface? And how come that no other app has problems with these drivers? Maybe Feral should take a careful look at their code?

Hello all, kind Feral support team here ;)

*** Simple Reason ***

Just in case anyone else has this issue we have tracked it down to a bug in the latest Logitech mouse drivers. It does NOT effect the mouse unless you install the "Logitech Control Center for Mac" drivers. So far it looks like the bug only effects the MX series.

*** Technical Reason ***

The Logitech drivers appear to have a bug that affects some mice; they will no longer send movement and mouse clicks using the standard OS input method, as they want to manipulate the data first. This means that if you are using the Apple-recommended way of getting input with the drivers, they don't give you any useful information like clicks or movements.

*** Solution ***

Uninstalling the Logitech drivers BEFORE playing the game will fix the issue.

p.s. We are logging the issue with Logitech support but please feel free to let them know as well. The uninstaller can be found in the Applications/Utilities folder and is called "LCC Uninstaller".

It's simple ;)

No other applications need or request access to raw mouse data as the minor OS delays are fine for most cases. As this is the first game we have come across using the direct (low lag, high accuracy) hardware access this is the first time the bug (or feature) has been exposed. Our code works exactly as intended the only time it does not is when the mouse/tablet driver denies access to the mouse data. This means the game is being told the mouse is attached but crucially it appear to never move or click.

Some mice drivers like USB Overdrive and the Microsoft mouse drivers do not block raw access to the device or have an override method. Logitech and Wacom drivers take over the device meaning other applications can no longer access the raw data. We have logged queries with both support teams to see find out more about why the raw data is being blocked and better solutions we could use.

In the 1.0.1 we have reprogrammed the game the game to use OS mouse delta information via the driver by default, the mouse might feel slightly less smooth as it has to pass through the drivers first compared to the direct no lag access the game gets from raw access.

This is not to say we should not have had the workaround for the device drivers in the initial release but the reason the game has the problem is down to the drivers denying raw access. The fact we did not have a workaround for the initial release is on us, we hope we made up for that with the speed we got the patch developed, tested and released.

The raw access mode is still available if you don't use these drivers and prefer the feel of raw input. You can enable it in the Advanced tab.

I have a question for the game:

I usually play everything with a gamepad for maximum comfort and the game does accept my PS3 gamepad (used via Bluetooth) but all the button prompts and menus show the xbox 360 gamepad buttons. Like "A" instead of the blue "x" on the playstation one.

Is this a bug or always this way? I remember when i got Arkham Asylum from the App store it displayed the PS3 buttons in game when i turned it on.

I know its just a minor thing but it can be a bit confusing in the beginning when still learning the controls - especially since X is not on the same spot on these gamepads. :D

The PC versions of games we port never have PS3 prompts and don't support the PS3 pad, however if we find the PS3 prompts left over from the PS3 version while porting the game to the Mac we do some extra work and enable them in the game as an extra Mac only feature.

In this case (DXHR) the assets for the PS3 did not exist hidden away in the data (PS3 had special PS3 only data) so we just had to have the 360 prompts like the PC version as adding them in was not possible due to how they were packaged in the game data. We did add in over 40 supported pads to the game like the PS3 gamepad, and included all of the DLC creating a new "Ultimate" edition exclusively on the Mac.

Thanks for the info.

I'm just glad i can play it with a gamepad at all - though i always get those strange looks when i tell people i like to play first person games with a pad. :D

You are doing an awesome work with these ports and i honestly can't tell you how many hours i have invested into Borderlands and Arkham Asylum. So keep up the good work!

i honestly can't tell you how many hours i have invested into Borderlands...

Just so you know we have a Borderlands patch almost ready which fixes a few issues people have with the PS3 pad in Lion. Apple modified something very slightly and it broke the button for vending machines with some PS3 pad and Mac combinations.

Also has a bunch of other improvements for the HD3000 and 40 more gamepads over the original.

I am wondering why are so many people on the App store reporting such bad performance while I can run it perfectly fine on mid 2010 macbook pro.

Because of it, I was so hesitant about getting the game but I am so glad that I did it in the end.:p

Thanks Feral, can't wait for the Empire: Total War!:)

Normally when we get a review/complaint about bad performance it's reported by users owning a low powered graphics card then complaining when they cannot play with native resolution and max settings. For example a "top end 13" MBP only has a HD3000 card so will always give you low end performance in games even if you updated it with RAM etc.

This is how you get people saying it runs slowly on my "high end" laptop. Usually the laptop was a high end model but equally did not come with a high end dedicated graphics unit (HD3000 only). None technical people don't understand and assume that their machine is powerful for gaming because it was expensive and has a high end CPU. Sadly the GPU is very important, we try and make this clear in our text and the first time you start the game as we set your settings to match your machines power.

We have had a few issues on some games but they are (touch wood) pretty rare and get fixed asap once we find out about them. Deus Ex had a patch in the first week to fix a few issues that some users experienced for example.

We have had one person give us a bad review on MAS saying the game crashes a lot. When they contacted support we found out they are running Mountain Lion Developer Preview 2! Using a beta OS is not exactly a clever idea if you want stability.

It's upsetting for us when reading bad reviews that we have an easy solution for. We (like all companies) cannot contact the customers directly or indirectly to tell them how to fix an issue as we cannot leave comments or send messages to customers who leave reviews in anyway. So remember if you want assistance contact support don't just leave a bad review. By all means leave a bad review afterwards if you think we still deserve it but let our support team help you first!

Glad you took the chance and enjoyed the game, hope you have time to leave a good review based on your experiences.

360 Controller

I know Feral doesn't officially support any gamepads, and I did finally order a keypad and mouse owing to the frustration I've had getting this infuriating thing to work with any Feral game. I loaded the specific tattie driver from Feral's site, the games recognize it in the pre-config, it shows the controller layout under options->controls->gamepad, but nothing. Nothing in Deus Ex, no response in TR. Major bummer. If anyone has had any success with this I'd love to know how you did it. FYI the 360 controller works just fine for the Steam client in big pic mode and in Transistor...

Feral's gamepad support is among the best out there. Are you using an official Microsoft controller or one from a third party? If the latter, ditch it and pick up an official controller. Then install version 0.11 of the Tattiebogle drivers, and you'll be good to go with pretty much all Feral games.

I just fired up my copy of the Director's Cut of DEx: HR, and it worked just fine with my 360 controller.

Yeah we support over 100 gamepads, we were one of the first to support the 360, PS3 Xbox One and Playstation 4 pads! I know we had the PS4 pad working in Feral games before the PS4 shipped!

Perhaps you have a third party 360 gamepad that isn't on our list of 100+ devices? If so have you contacted Feral's support at all?

We even have instructions in our FAQs, why do you think we don't support pads? :)

Ed, off on a tangent but it just reminded me when i saw this thread, i found in my cupboard an ancient (but usb) mac gamepad, think its a macally. would that work with feral games? i did try it but i was playing a pc game (far cry 4) and it did nothing so i gave up but would it still work with anything?

If it's the one I think you are talking about then yes it should work with most Feral games. It's a horrible pad but it should work fine. :)
