Online reservation is for n00bs. Nothing beats waiting for Apple Store to go live on launch night and snipe the iPhone you want. In and out in 90 seconds. Rage, throw things if servers go mental and website stops loading. :D

I e given up on launch day line waiting even being legit 3rd in line I've been burned/screwed 3 years straight by 1 issue or another

I will never ever buy iphone or any other product from operator or reseller. Only Apple website or shop, for just simple reason. Quality of their customer service. Apple doesn't accept any repairs if you purchase your stuff somewhere else, even if you have apple care. 1st year is the seller responsibility to handle any problems.

Absolutely 120% False and untrue

No, this is not how it works. Just stop.

How can you reserve something that doesn't exist? Might as well start reservations for the iPhone 10.

I wonder if the reservation includes 2 gigs of ram, no protruding camera and no antenna lines?

I remember partaking in this service before the iPhone 5 was announced back in 2012. Oddly enough, Telekom sent my phone and new nano sim (at the time) around a month after the phone was released... So much for "reserving".

That's an absolutely bizarre assertion.

In the uk that's not the case at least. If you got the phone with an operator you can still go to the Genius Bar to get it fixed .
That has been my experience here in the US as well. I often have friends and family go to the Apple store, who purchased their Apple Phones (and other devices) from other retailers such as Microcenter or Best Buy.

Registration system for an iPhone "S" series launch—is that even necessary?

Same basic design and build as the iP6, meaning that there's already more available similar/common parts in the supply chain. Obviously this doesn't account for some of the more subtle differences such as a new A9 chip, Force Touch display, etc., but I can't think we'll experience the same severe delays as we did last fall when it was a completely new build.

Stood in line for iPhone 4 for almost 5 hours. That was the last time I did that. Cool experience, but probably wouldn't do that again. I used to wait in line for OS releases too, but that's done. I don't know what happened to the shirt they gave me. Forget which OS it was.

I almost got either Leopard or Snow Leopard shirt... whichever OS X version came out in 2007. As I recall the sales person said I was ~30 minutes too late. Since I bought my iMac on the release day of the OS, they had to stick the OS X update CD in the box - my iMac didn't actually have it preinstalled.

Fun memories buying that iMac. Probably won't be anything sentimental buying its replacement. Apple will announce it in a keynote that I'll stream live, I'll switch tabs to the store, and refresh until I'm able to order. 15" Xeon Skylake rMBP in 2015 please.

I'm tired of staying up late to be one of the first to preorder. I'm hoping Apple institutes a pre sign-up system to ensure early spots for preorders. What would be really great is if we could line up in front of an Apple store to sign up for this.
