I for one am shocked. SHOCKED I tell you that a telecom would falsely advertise the speeds you can get.

I guess Apple or the carrier might also not even know what they are doing but this is pretty damning.

If this gets really big in the media, you'll see AT&T jump out and say they do it to all phones, or apple saying that it's a bug and they're working on a fix. They'll remove the code and put it somewhere else ;)

Remember when bar strength was "accidentally" shown to be stronger than it was really. Good times.

Why is no one addressing the root of how ridiculous this article is?

That's not throttling. They just don't use DC-HSPA+, and many areas are running at 14.4. And that's not an iPhone thing, that's the whole network.

That guy is an idiot, and that article doesn't even make any sense. He says, after saying they use 14.4 HSDPA not 21, that they throttle LTE. WTF? LTE has nothing to do with HSPA+. Two separate networks.

Bingo. This needs to be repeated over and over again.

And is that you GSMinCT from HoFo? :D

Stop making sense. Only outrage is allowed here.

Iphone or not in London UK, 3G speeds can be unusable for any kind of streaming even on the more premium providers. I barely manage to get through my 1GB of data a month (yes UK customers are totally ripped off here) because of the slow speeds in built up areas.

It seems ironic that in the country side you are lucky if you can get 3G just because of a small hill or line of trees and in the city the buildings and shear number of people get in the way.

It's not bad I suppose but it hasn't really improved for the last 5 years. More data hungry phones are making the service worse and worse and yet still the phone companies don't improve the networks but just continue to pay dividends to shareholders.

One day they might sort it all out but i'll be dead by then.

Verizon iPhone 5 still shows carrier version as 14.2 after applying the update. The file shows it's 14.1. Anyone else notice this too?

Yes, Three does that to attract customers. At some point, so many people will be enjoying their "unlimted data allowance" that your data rates drop to 10kbps. Then even the most naive user will realize that Three cheated them with a promise that they could never actually keep.

Well, I've been on Three since December, and I frequently travel into London. Average speed in London is about 3-6Mbps (usually at 2-4Mbps at rush hour), unless you're at a football stadium and then it drops to 10Kbps (this was repeated on Vodafone, EE and O2, however).

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't higher data speeds mean more data consumed? More data consumed means more money for the provider. Why would they want less money? Sounds a little fishy. What am I missing? I personally use VOIP and a MiFi device for phone and internet so am not real familiar with cellular billing. :)

Ok, I'll correct you. Higher data speeds does NOT mean more data consumed. For example: if you check your email.. a fast connection may download 50 new emails in one second.. a slow connection may take six seconds. Lol, the data in the emails doesn't somehow get larger because you received it faster.

AT&T LTE drop speed drops drastically over 3 months

LTE went live in my area around March 29th and as you can tell by my test results from that point on until today, my results have changed drastically.

At what point do we not call it "throttled" and instead call it "the cellular companies have the right to manage their networks?"

If everyone's speed is being held to a similar standard than that's the carrier deciding what their network can handle with the number of users they have. It's their job to determine things like that.

That's not throttling, which is defined as specifically lowering a user's speeds under what they normally get.

It's impossible for everyone to be throttled 24/7. How can the average be lower than average? Then it simply IS the average.

You missed the point ENTIRELY. Sure it's fair if, as you said EVERYONE'S speed was held to a similar standard. Umm.. hello, the article was quite clear- these config files are applied to iPhones ONLY. Android phones are left unfettered, thus creating the UNFAIR to consumers situation.. Make sense?

This is really a good idea because the iPhone does use more and that's not fair to us Android or Windows users.

T-Mobile will catch on soon, once more people hop on their network.

No, iPhone users use their phones more, how is slowing down iOS users fair?

I wouldn't be 100% sure about that. My data speed increased tremendously when I went Android. There are tons and tons of background tasks pinging for data. Probably more than an iOS device. Also the Play Store has torrenting clients. I'm sure there are some idiots out there torrenting on their Android devices

Yeah well people pretty much believe what they want to believe regardless of the facts. :)

Well, people pretty much decide not to believe what they don't want to believe regardless of the facts, too.

The observations I pointed out are second-hand, but were pointed out by two different people who have never met each other. I've seen the screenshots, if that means anything to you, but I doubt it does. What will you say if all these networks flat out admitted they throttle iPhone users?
