The question is does it have to be completely deleted or will simply closing it in multitasking do?

Ok so in follow up to my last post. I now have 2 hrs and 16min usage times(all web browsing on wifi) and my battery is at 81%

Now I rarely use wifi because of my unlimited data plan, but, Verizon has severely throttle my speed for the last few months so I am trying use wifi as much as possible starting today. Anyway, even in the past there is no way I got this much usage time or even remotely close. Fresh iOS installed and no Facebook installed.

So the others that do have it installed, your sayings it's alright to install, just force quit everything you are done using it correct?

current update, im at 2h 36m of use, 6h, 40m of standby and im at 86%.

usually, my phone would lose 1% of battery every 2-3 minutes of screen use. but ive been sitting at 86% for awhile now, even with some texting and words with friends. so far, this is amazing lol.

Here is my most recent usage stats. This is my third day of making sure Facebook is shut down completely after use and I'm absolutely surprised by the findings. I'm so happy I can finally not have to worry about this drain issue anymore.

This makes sense. I've always thought it was odd to hear people say they have battery life issues with the iPhone. Who knew it was actually the end user and not Apple at fault? :)

I've always been in the habit of force closing all apps when I put my phone down for long periods. I guess that's why I never seen the issue.

I just want you to know there is a problem with battery drain with the official facebook app on windows phone OS too...Those two "downhills" are because of the fb app running in the background (not behind lockscreen but in the similar way as on iOS, "frozen" state). Fully closing the app stops the draining.

Can I have more info about your usage?:D Brightness level? What did you do during this 4+ hrs of usage? iMessage, Whatsapp, Viber or anything. Cuz My usage is nowhere close to your:(. And at the end what's the most usage time you can get out of your battery? thanks a lot

if Apple would allow us to see which Apps were using data and battery, we'd know. But they don't. It might be difficult to tell which apps use a lot of battery though.

This ought to get posted on the "big blogs" and encourage answers from Facebook and Apple.

I say Apple too because if this battery drain is as significant as it appears, then why aren't Apple doing something about it? There's no information to the users that using Facebook will reduce battery life severely.

I'm going to do a trial and quit Facebook when I'm not using it and see if I can believe it.

it was all a few phone calls, maybe 20 minutes, imessaging and texting, playing 5 games of words with friends and some web browsing.

this was with 2 bars of service, but on wifi, brightness set very low as i always have it but it is set on auto.

This is definitely the culprit.

My first reply:

I came to make a new thread about why my battery life's been crap the past week or so. I'm definitely trying this starting immediately.

I'm currently at 8 total hours, 2:35 usage and at 26 percent battery.

Today with the app always being closed completely:

21 percent
4 hours, 28 mins usage time
1 day, 9 hours standby time

Yep, ever since I deleted it last night I have had the best battery life ever. Facebook really needs to fix their app and get on top of their game.

I deleted it this AM as well. I'm not on it much anyways so not having it won't be a big deal.

Just to reiterate, you do not need to delete the app. You just need to force it to shut down when you are done. Of course you're free to delete it if you like.

Yea I was just seeing if it does make a difference. I barely use FB anyways so figured I might as well delete it.

I did a little detective work, and simply turning off the notifications for the FB app actually seems to help as well (at least the app wasn't as active). So for those, like me, who are easily distracted and tend to forget things like killing apps, it might be worth doing as an extra precaution.

Settings > Notifications > Facebook. Put the four switches to "OFF" and Alert Style to "None"

I'm not saying this is a fact, but when I looked at the phone through Instruments Facebook seemed to be less active when the notifications were turned off than when they were turned on - and this without even receiving any notifications.

I deleted mine a few days ago. Finally facebook free for a couple weeks and I don't miss it at all! Everyone should try it!

Being free from all social networks is a great feeling! )) Did the battery problem make you delete the app? )

Btw, speaking about the battery life, I have noticed, that the similar problem is when you are offline and your skype app in on. The app is trying to find the net all the time and the battery dies very fast.

skype is a VOIP app, its required to remain active in the background to listen for calls. a true battery hog.
