I remember when Seiko released a pager watch. One of my all time favorite watches...

Second to that awesome tv remote control watch. Now that was a piece of technology.

I had one of those pager watches. It was awesome. The time was accurate to 1/10,000th of a second because it was synced with an atomic clock. (or at least that is what they claimed) It was neat to put mine next to my friends and see the seconds ticking off in perfect unison. At the time I didn't even have a cell phone, though neither did most people. It even had news alerts that would come up on the watch. Although it didn't display text well. I still remember being informed of Princess Diana's death via the watch. It just read "Di Dies" because that was the best it could do with the lcd watch display. Anyway, I loved that watch, and thats probably why I bought a pebble. So far it's great, and the potential for it to get even better is there.

Anyone ever installed homebrew and if so, how safe is it? You have to install it as an admin.... me not like this...

I didn't have a problem with HomeBrew. Using "Brewed Python" caused a little problem that had to be fixed by amending the PATH variable.

What an ugly piece of poop a Pebble watch is. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that. Why is a cheap watch the next big thing? Big fail IMO, even if a bunch of nerds bought one of these in a Kickstarter.

I hope that the irony of you posting this on a tech forum at 8:49 p.m on Friday and mocking the "nerds" isn't completely lost.

Still waiting for my colored Pebbles. My patience certainly had not been rewarded. Seriously wondering if Apple will announce a watch before Pebble completes its Kickstarter fulfillment. Glad I eBayed my two black ones while there was a market for them.

I did the same. With all the problems people have been having with them I am glad I did too.
I was looking forward to playing with it, but I guess I will have to wait till my preorder arrives now.

A watch I can understand, though I also don't wear one, because it's much more relevant to on a relatively regular basis to know what the current time is, e.g. how much longer until my next meeting. I'm not going to miss something important if I'm not constantly paying attention to the weather. Like I said, everyone is different, but when you're desperate to get a device so that you don't have to pull another device out of your pocket, to me that seems kind of strange.

There are many situations where I don't want to reveal that I'm carrying an expensive and easily stolen SmartPhone but still need some information...
But I'd rather have e.g. navigation information or transport times than the current weather.

Color me old fashioned, but I've always believed my watches to be simple, an accessory I feel naked without and an investment. I'd feel a bit odd wearing an electronic watch/wristband and not my Bertolucci or Rolex. Not meant as a flection of social status, etc. but investments in time pieces that simply tell the date and time. If I need more I'll use my mobile device or, well, look up and see the weather ;).

etc moving on...

watches are for people who are always way on time, which is also way lame. watches and way on time people are way lame. aka CEOs.

three words - ugly useless waste.

Meh, I'll wait for the Apple one - which I think is definitely happening. Why else would they change the Nano away from the chunky-watch size it was? I came very close to getting one when it was suddenly replaced with the current version. This made no sense to me, unless either a) the sales of the watch-sized Nano were pants compared to the larger versions that preceded it, or b) they wanted to move the basically music-only Nano away from the gap where the new iWatch.

It's been a quiet 12 months for Apple releases, IMHO. I think it will be a busy summer: iWatch, new Pro, tweaks to the MacBook lineup, iPhone 5GTi, iOS 7. Looking forward to Sir Jony's work on iOS look and feel! Apple really need to move the goalposts as competitor phones are now way shinier. But a symbiotic watch could be impressive...

I bought this watch via kickstarter. Truly a waste of money. Nearly 12 months late, and all it can do is show different clock faces and vibrate when you get a text. The developers overhyped this device and could not deliver. It's poorly made and looks like crap. Pebble will cease to exist in less than a year. Apple and Samsung only have to sneeze and their product would be 10 times better.

I've had my Pebble for almost four weeks now and I really like it. Yes it's a plastic watch, but then, I used to wear Casio's too. I personally don't like heavier metal watches that get easily damaged/scratched during my day to day job. This Pebble has been great because when I'm under a desk plugging in a PC or up to my elbows in Server innards, I don't actually need to dig my phone out to check a text or see an email or to see who's calling and whether it's worth answering. So far, it works great for that. the only drawback has been the battery time: kind of abysmal--maybe two days at most between charging. This update may fix that.

And as to why I want it to show weather... I don't know why, but I have always been insane about knowing the outside temp. Just my quirk maybe. Anyway, that watch face showing the temp looks spiffy too me.

iPhone 5GTi??? Where did you see that name mentioned?

I don't understand why the Pebble is so much more hyped than any of the other options out there. The MetaWatch for instance is available, has more functions, better battery life, open source, rock solid in comparison... And looks a whole lot better. Another option is the i'm Watch, granted it's a bit buggy but it's running a proper OS and has a touch screen.

Then you have the Pebble. Not available, not even all the backers have gotten theirs yet, devs can only change the watch face, plagued with bugs and whatnot... But it's the Pebble that everyone is talking about. I mean, it's weird.

The Pebble = The Emperor's New Clothes.

There is potential for a wrist-worn device to be very useful and aesthetically pleasing. This seems like a rush-job to get a foothold. Nothing more than a hipster's dream.

It already looks like the watch equivalent of this:

I ebayed one of my two for more than both cost me combined, so I'm enjoying my free Pebble at the moment. It has its issues, but the last few firmware updates have definitely helped, and having a jailbroken phone with the Bluetooth notifier add-on means I actually get all the notifications instead of just text messages. I'm looking forward to coming updates improving the functionality even more.

I have had mine around the same amount of time and also like it. I use the "If this then that" site to set it up to give me notifications 15 minutes before meetings, I also see texts on it and can see who is calling and decline the call without taking my phone out of my pocket - which I find useful in the way too many meetings I have to attend.

I would like that temperature display on a watch face also. Helps with lunch decisions on the fly. Ironically, I see people commenting that that is stupid and the Microsoft watch story shows a watch face with the weather.
