If iOS 9 rumors turns out to be true, I can see one last go for the A5. Apple should have dropped the original from the lineup but they didn't.

I actually hope they drop the A5 from 9. There's not much they can do performance wise for the older chip, and it gets old hearing from those 'great Apple fans' about how their old device doesn't run as well as it did on iOS 4.3. >>;

If iOS 9 is not meant to enhance performance of the A5 devices, then YES, there's no reason to support them. If OTOH they think they can increase the performance with 9, then hell yes bring it on.

Bring it on regardless. Then those who don't want it can not upgrade and those who do want it can upgrade...

The iPad Mini 1 and iPod Touch 5 are still for sale, and A5 devices hold a massive share in the iPad Market.

They can improve performance - its all about optimisation. iOS 8 runs poorly on everything. Lets be honest, there should be no jittery animation on A7 and A8 devices, yet there is.

Apple said something about 9 already?

It needs to be dropped eventually. And this year fits their schedule.

Why does it 'Need' to get dropped? Theoretically (This is never going to happen) Apple could keep supporting it for years, if iOS did not become more demanding. This push to drop support for no reason is only a disadvantage to consumers. (Except for those who have the money to buy a new iPad and iPhone every year, and thats not all of us)

They're pretty much roped into supporting the A5, so because the iPod Touch 5 is the same as the 4S, there is no reason for the 4S not to be supported if the touch is supported. Tim Cook only the other day was talking about a big part of buying an Apple device is that they get updates, and thus are kept feeling fresh with new features.

IOS 9 compatibility

What devices will make the cut on IOS 9?Ipad 2 is out , and 4s too, and what devices do u think on IOS 9 will be the last major update?

All speculation and NO the A5 devices are not part of the iOS 9 cut because Apple hasn't released which devices will support iOS 9. In a few months we'll find out.

I think Its about time to predict of what devices are going to run ios 9 we know that the iPhone 4s is out of the picture but apple still sells the original iPad mini and the iPod touch 5th gen so here are my predictions

Iphone 5, 5c, 5s 6, 6 plus, and 6s

Ipad 3, 4 iPad mini 1st, 2nd, and 3rd

And the iPod touch 5th gen

So what are your guys predictions

Probably all devices capable of running iOS 8 will be able to run iOS 9. Apple has previously done so for iOS 5 (although iOS 4.3 has cut down support for armv6 devices), and numerous recent OS X updates.

What do you mean? iOS 4 is the last version for the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G, and iOS 5 is last for the original iPad. The only updates that have supported all the same devices as previous are iOS 2 and 3. iOS 6 and 8 are both tied at dropping 1 device (not counting Apple TV).

Well if you look at it this way, iOS 5 didn' drop anything, as iOS 4.3 did instead.

IOS 9 only for 64 bit devices?do u think Iphone 5 will get IOS 9?

So this is my predict for IOS 9

Iphone 5s,6 ,6 Plus
Ipad Air, Ipad Air 2 , Mini 2 and 3

Am I right?

Nope, they're selling the iPhone 5c and iPod Touch. But there is no way for us to know, we have to wait and see.

4S is out. 5 gen of Ipod Touch is out , and finally the Ipad 2! here is my prediction

Iphone 5,5c,5s,6,6Plus

Ipad 3,4,Air, Air 2 ,
Mini 2 and 3

Iphone 5 ,5c( limited features)
Ipad 3 and Ipad 4( limited features)

By your logic that means A6, A7 and A8 devices will also not support iOS 9 because of Apple hasn't announced which devices that would.

Personally as long as I see iPad mini 1 and iPod Touch 5 in production, all A5 devices will be supported for iOS 9. I've been through this discussion before with iOS 8 and I was right.

You are obviously using progressive logic and putting the cart before the horse. The A7 and A8 will in all likelihood make the cut. Why don't we wait for Apple's announcement to see if the A5/A6 will get iOS 9? ;)

Because going through Apple's track record, as long A5+ devices are still available to purchase from Apple WILL get the next update.

iPad mini 1 and iPod Touch 5 are still available to purchase today from Apple therefore we can assume they (and 4s, iPad 2 and 3) will get the next update UNLESS these devices get removed before WWDC (and that's highly unlikely now because Apple must give customers at least 1 year support/warranty).

People thought A5 devices won't get iOS 8 because of iPad 2 EVEN though iPad 2 was still available to get from Apple.

If A5 wasn't going to get iOS 9, they should have removed all A5 devices around the time iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 were new to the world.

You are correct. Except for the iPod Touch 4 (which is a whole other story) all iOS devices have received one years support once they have been discontinued.
Everything that got iOS 8 should get iOS 9, especially if iOS 9 runs better due to reduced requirements. Dropping A5 iPads means stranding over half of the installed iPad base with iOS 8...

Plus the 4S has allready been picked up running iOS 9.

They're testing the 4S on iOS 9. They're still selling the iPad Mini 1 (Identical to the iPad 2) and the iPod Touch 5 (identical to the iPhone 4S) so that pretty much guarantees A5 support. If they are to improve performance, theres no reason not to support A5 devices + the majority of iPad users are on A5 devices and that number is not dropping fast.
