So I just tried Face ID with my arm fully extended and it didn't work. Just updated my phone in the office and tried and now it worked! Kind of funny actually. I'm 6' tall

For the curiosity sake, I did a reset of my Face ID during late night with little ambient light. And I am surprised that it can actually complete face scan and finish the setup process. At the same time, in different ambient light conditions, Face ID unlock speed could be quite slower than Touch ID unlock.

For me, the worst-case situation is when it's on my dash mount in my car which is approximately at arm's length. But you are right, I don't usually have my elbow locked at full reach when using the Face ID. So far, it just seems a little better. Maybe it's not, but seems like it though.

So I read a tip about setting up face ID and it's worked well for me. When setting it up do the first one how you hold the phone up close but for the second one do it at arm's length. It's worked really well for me.

FaceID isn’t affected by ambient light. In fact it requires no ambient light at all. It uses infrared from its own built in illuminator.
