Isn't that how it's supposed to work? You install 4.01 and it displays the actual reception vs 4.0 showing unrealistically strong signal.

Cheers,

That's exactly what it was supposed to do.

I suspect this update will cause more problems than the original issue as millions of iphone owners who did not have an issue with reception start reporting their signal has dropped when they update.

Really they should just remove the bars altogether or just show when there is a signal and when there isn't. It doesn't make a blind bit of difference whether you have 5 bars or 1 as long as you can make and receive calls.

Fixed the ability of the iphone to connect to the hotels wifi again which was broken by 4.0 on both 3GS and 4

Can't tell anything else cos i'm in a cellular deadzone anyway and get 1 bar if i'm lucky

Yeah, it only happens with my router. Thing is, my PS3 hooks up fine to it so idk.. It's a WRT110 so it's not that old, I think I got it last year or the year before. :\ It fluctuates. Like right now, hooked up to Wifi and it's working fine.

The routers your problem.. That ones a big pile of ****. Cheap and crappy.

i'm actually seeing much better speeds when i do a speedtest now. before most of the tests were 1.5-2.0 Mbps, now I've been as high as 2.8Mbps and usually above 2.0Mbps every test now.

Yes actually it has benefited me. I like the fact the we can now see what we're really getting signal wise. Sure it might make my bars drop a little more but if its just what we've been getting all along then who cares? and the deathgrip doesn't seem as serious now (1 bar drop after 1 minute)

however making the bars bigger is stupid. i'm sure we could all see them fine. I hope they put it back to the way they were before, but oh well...We'll get used to them if not.

i also wanted to add that i just tested the dropped call problem and my call did not drop with death grip. my signal did drop from 4 bars to 1 but the call didn't drop. before when i did the test on 4.0 it would drop the call after a minute, this time it didnt' drop it at all and i stayed on the call for over 2min. so maybe by expanding their decibel range for 1 bar it helps to prevent actual call drops but does not prevent the signal dropping.

Well, it enabled tethering for me once again. Thank you Apple.

For the last year, I've had the feeling they turn it on and off with every other update. Oh well, I reckon it will be gone again with 4.1.

Have you actually tried using it ? It says you have tethering but in reality the moment you attach it to your laptop it immediately disables it.

To solve this, you may need to assign a "static" ip address for your devices. What may be happening is your devices are kicking others off. Mine used to do the same thing. I then assigned static ip addresses for all and haven't had an issue since. good luck.

I have noticed no changes on my iPhone 3G with OS 4.0.1, other than the magnified lower bars. Making those lower two bars larger was not needed and a waste of programming time.

OS4 is just as laggy as it was when I first upgraded to it. Apple could have thrown 3G users a bone and fixed that issue before anything else.

thats not even a 4.0.1 screenshot. note the short bars...

Accidentally uploaded an older photo of the issue. Doesn't matter anyway, since the bug WAS NOT FIXED on the 4.0.1 update, despite calls to Apple and documenting the problem on the Feedback section of Apple website.

Anyway, here's the one I was trying to post last night.

This IS a screenshot of the error on 4.0.1:

What bugs me though is that, this problem didn't start happening until I updated to iOS 4.0
Before that, everything was working properly :\
