I actually saw my UPS guy in my neighborhood when I was on my way to the Apple store to snag a leather case this morning. I asked him if he could give me my phone and he confirmed I had a package coming to my home but he couldn't find it among the million boxes he had in the back of his truck. I told him to make sure to leave it at he front door and that I had taped the presign to the door. He knows my house so he told me where he would hide the box.

I used MyChoice and asked for it to be delivered to the apartment management office. They didn't do it (maybe I'm the only one allowed to sign for it). The InfoNotice slip says they'll try again tomorrow on Saturday.

"Driver's discretion" is a BS policy. You want to know if they're going to leave it or not. You don't want a decision made on the whim of a driver who was in a pissed off mood or spilled coffee on his pants.

I'm surprised. These kinds of companies usually have very strict policies that give lowly drivers zero authority.

That said, I'd never leave one of these. We have had package theft run rampant in my community. They know when the UPS trucks come in and they follow them in a car or bike, and when UPS drops off, they pick up. I'm sure they follow "iPhone Day" just like they do xmas. Slime.

I called FedEx twice today. Talked to separate people and both said if there is a note with Printed Name, Signed Name, and tracking number they will leave it. I am going to be very mad if they don't.

Mine just got dropped off with the presign form taped to the door. We also live in a quiet development where we are the youngest home owners... the second youngest are a couple in their late 50's.... so not much concern.

The other thread says that people are attacking UPS drivers for iPhones.

Perhaps UPS made the decision to disallow pre-signs for now because they're more likely to be stolen.

Slightly off topic but I left a note on my door asking the UPS person to knock LOUD and to please give me 15-20 seconds to get out of bed and get to the door. (i work second shift)

The dude knocked INSANELY quietly. I barely heard it. I jumped out of bed and flew to the door. Dude was already down the stairs. I was like "DUDE!".

As I was signing for it he asked me which size iphone I got. Thought it was fishy.

Drivers discretion. Maybe he didn't like the look of your neighborhood.

Well, it's a gated community and we live at the end of a quiet street with no through traffic. We have a private yard that's not visible from the street. So I don't think it was the neighborhood. My guess is that it's way easier for the driver to ignore the pre-sign than to explain why half the iPhone's on his route got stolen...

Presign is honestly a bad idea for iPhones, because while some customers will suck it up if something happens, you know that others wouldn't, and either way Apple would probably hold UPS responsible.

I was at home today, but chose to presign anyways just in case I didn't hear the doorbell. Anyhow, I heard the doorbell and caught him just as he was pulling the presign off the door. I was actually surprised when he told me that mine was the only iphone on his truck today. Guess Missississippi will always be behind the times in something!

Looks like my UPS customer center is staying open late tonight so anyone who missed their delivery can get there and pick it up.
