Will the Apple store match the $349 refurb? If so, I'll get one now.

Unlikely since returns are not new stock.

You might have had a refurb at your door tomorrow if you'd called the online apple store and sweet talked them into next day shipping... :D

I'm looking for a steal on a iPad 1 because it's going to be for my little boy to play games on. Hopefully apple's new prices will make others lower theirs.

I did! Got a 64GB 3G for $486 on Amazon. iPad 2 can wait, I don't like paying retail.

Buy low on Craigslist, sell high on eBay.... oh wait, did I just give up my secrets?

I'm so tempted to buy one today, just $350 for the 16GB WiFi model!

Bought my first iPad today. 16 gb wifi 2 months old with case for 300. Perfect condition.

Thought about the refurbs but with tax it would come to nearly 400 with a case.

Eh I was definitely contemplating getting a refurb iPad 1 after the iPad 2 launch. I was really hoping for more like $250 though, only $150 difference instead of a device twice as powerful doesn't seem worth it. =\

Watch CL and Amazon and you will eventually find an iPad for $250. Might take awhile, but it will happen.

Even when iPad 3 is out next year, you would probably still be able to sell a first gen for around $300.

You can't be serious.

We're conditioned to be idiots and buy this crap for that price. Lets ignore the fact that yes, it should have been dropped more than $100 but in our lame butt society, we're grateful for the $100 drop.
Why thank you Steve, we LOVE you for that measly drop in a price for a 1st gen item. We're idiots.

^ As is stated time and time again, you don't have to buy anything. You choose to buy it. It's quite simple.

Further, just because a new product is released doesn't mean the cost of production went down.

Yes, it's simple. We're conditioned to accept it. Read all the "hallelujah, the Ipad is gonna drop $100" and see for yourself.
While we're at it, I might as well read an AOL article on how we're lucky that gas isn't $5 a gallon yet, and I'll fall down on my knees and thank my lucky stars that we only pay $3.70 a gallon here.
They condition us to these things, and we accept them like the fools we are.

I have seen 2 on CL today for less than $300. I was a little slow on both but I eventually got a nice deal on a 64gb 3g. You will have to be diligent, but if you live in a populated area, you will be able to buy an iPad for under $300 this week.

Yep. Couldn't justify paying $100 more when the one thing I wanted was a higher res screen. I have an iPhone4 so I don't need any more cameras and sure it's a faster processor but I'll be fine with the dare I say "old" one. :) I got the new not refurbished 16GB iPad with free expedited shipping and the Apple Sales lady gave me a free Apple iPad Case to boot! So all that and tax for a little over $400, I'm very happy!

I was waiting for ipad 2, but the ipad 16GB wifi model is now £289 in the UK refurb store. Wow, thats such a great price its hard to pass up on. The base model ipad 2 will miost likely be £439 I think. I have an iphone 4 and intend to get the 5 so to be able to pick up an ipad for under 300 is really tempting, plus we all know apple refurbs are great quality. Just wonder if I'd regret not getting the shiny new one. I'd mainly use it for web and email so not really a power user and I'm sure the old spec model would do. Hmmm, not sure...

Bought one in mint shape - 2 months old on CL with nice case for $300 :p 16gb wifi model.:D

Lucky! LOL I keep going back and forth between ipad or ipad 2. But my selling point on og ipad would definitely be $300 for a couple months old (mint condition of course) heck you even got a case, good job! I am hoping I can luck into one like that or better in the next week or so.. :) As much as Id like to have the newest one saving $200+ tax on a barely used one is too good to pass up.

Well, i'm not interested in the cameras either (don't think i've ever used these of my iphone 4, or any other phone i ever had anyway), and i have the chance to buy one from a friend that was given one but is not interested in it.
A wifi 16gb, unused, still in the box, for something like $150-200.
is it worth getting the newer model, or will the first ipad be just fine?
I mean, concerning the performance, as the new one has a much better processor, and probably 512 mb of RAM.

I am sorry you feel that way. I could spend 700 on a ipod 2 or get a refurb with warranty and case for 700. buying a ipod 2 would set me back closer to 900 with warranty and case. As for accepting pricing we have a choice and I chose to wait until the ipod 2 came out and take advantage of the drop in price on the ipad 1.

Blanket statements that condemn people for not looking at the world as you do comes across as judgmental and shows a lack of understanding for others. :)

Gas is a need, not a luxury. Poor example IMO. You don't need to buy an iPad.

They must not have been in excellent condition. If by chance they were, some people got very lucky.

Just picked up a 16GB WiFi refurb from the UK store for £ 289.00 - a bargain.

It's for my 82 year old father, who saw mine the other day and, without any instruction from me, took to the interface like a duck to water!

He'll be surprised when I hand it to him - bet he goes down the club and shows it off to all his (younger) mates :)

No doubt he'll be using it to place bets on the horses - I used The Racing Post app to demo it to him.

When I was a boy, he used to surprise and delight us by bringing home the latest technology: the first reel-to-reel domestic tape recorder; the first Polaroid Land camera; the first home intercom system.

Now it's my turn - can't wait to see his face!
