Just picked up a 16GB WiFi refurb from the UK store for £ 289.00 - a bargain.

It's for my 82 year old father, who saw mine the other day and, without any instruction from me, took to the interface like a duck to water!

He'll be surprised when I hand it to him - bet he goes down the club and shows it off to all his (younger) mates :)

No doubt he'll be using it to place bets on the horses - I used The Racing Post app to demo it to him.

When I was a boy, he used to surprise and delight us by bringing home the latest technology: the first reel-to-reel domestic tape recorder; the first Polaroid Land camera; the first home intercom system.

Now it's my turn - can't wait to see his face!

Good on ya mate!!

Yeah. I was all stoked to get one after watching the Keynote, then I went to the online Apple store and saw the price cuts. I ended up buying a Refurb 32GB WIFI iPad 1. With the $50 Apple Gift Card I had, I ended up spending just $421 after tax. That was a much easier plunge than the $600 I would've spent for the 32 GB iPad 2 considering they're both an unnecessary toy.

Now that I did I'm thinking of returning or ebaying it. Having talked to iPad owners, I think no Flash is going to bother me more than I may have thought. I wish iPad wasn't so price competitive so I could take it out of the equation! Hard to justify the alternative Viewsonic tablet for $400 or a Xoom for $800!

Why not try it out for 10 days and if you don't like it return it? Flash might be a good thing/important for you but I'm sure you can live without it. Plus the depth of the App store is a plus.

Hmm. Great idea. I hadn't realized Apple had such a liberal return policy. Looks like they don't even hack a restocking fee, just shipping. So I've got 10 days after I receive it? I'll definitely do that. I have an iPhone 4 and I run into Flash barriers all the time but I think my patience will be shorter for something as large and intended for home use as an iPad.

I am now the proud owner of an ipad. Very chuffed with it most features that are on the new ipad i can use from my iphone 4 so not really bothered about cameras and the other new bits.

One thing that did surprise me, after deciding to get one after a long think outside the Apple store was how the Apple sales guy was trying to put me off buying the current one and to wait till the new one. Im now thinking i should of maybe held off but the saving of £110 kind of did it for me.

Received my iPad yesterday and after prying it out of the fingers of my 14 year old daughter I ran into a flash barrier. The local boys basketball team is playing in the state tournament and I couldn't watch the stream because it is a flash site. Not a big deal and sent off an email to the site to ask them to change how they stream the video. Was watching the stream on the puter and it was so slow and laggy. What a joke. I can stream netflix and not have any stutter. I guess flash makes that huge of a difference.

So far it is a great device and the lack of flash isn't a concern at all. Now just waiting for the iPod touches to arrive so I can give them to my daughters and have a good excuse to deny them the iPad. Hahahahahaha.

Also bought an iPad yesterday; I couldn't justify £429/£439 on one previously but £329 is a bargain IMO, especially from Apple. I mainly intend to use it for reading programming e-books at home (books that can't be read on a Kindle), so I don't care about thinness, a faster proc or the cameras. It'll drop OS support a year earlier than iPad 2 but the OS is fairly stable and featured now such that it shouldn't be an issue long term unlike with my venerable iPhone 3G (which I intend to use until iPhone 6! Fairly happy with 4.2.1).
