and someone please answe my question?
pretty please?

if you read the small print on the bottom after you select which plan you would like it says that if the equipment(phone) is put on another number or changed within 181 days of purchase than your form of payment(credit card) will be billed for $250 which is the equipment discount fee. If you don't plan on getting your iPhone for 181 days then I suppose it would work.

is that only for newegg? I would like to do what was originally proposed, but do not want any hidden fees like the one mentioned on the NewEgg Site.

Can anyone confirm that this is not the case for doing this process in store?

Even if you got the iphone, you are still eligible for a phone at the upgraded price.

In my case, I have been with Cingular for 1 year 8 months and 3 weeks, 1 week shy of being able to upgrade with their discounted phone rate. Well I bought an iphone, was going to wait until I got a discounted phone, but after talking to a couple of at&t reps and looking at their site, it says that you are still eligible for the discounted price even after activation the phone.

Here is a link to AT&T talking about it: AT&T FAQ(about 2/3 way down.

So no need to cancel your plan or anything with AT&T. If you want a good deal on phones, go for their refurbished, they can be dirt cheap and make some good profit on ebay.

really?

in the site it says i have an iphone and am not eligible?

and besides

bestbuy has a samsung syn for free

2 days before iDay, I bought a Sony/Ericsson w810b from Amazon for 0.01 WITH a 175 rebate. I'll use that to pay for getting out of Sprint. I had no trouble upgrading to the iPhone and only had to add the data plan. The cost was the same. Very easy.:D

I also got a Sony w810i from Amazon. I only qualify for the $100 rebate because I am renewing a contract. I sold the w810i on ebay and now could buy the iphone....but I am still not sure whether activating the iphone (involves adding the iphone data plan to the $39.99 calling plan I chose when I bought the w810i & dropping my current 200 media net data plan) will trigger the $250 charge and/or void my $100 rebate. I didn't choose the data plan when I bought the phone from Amazon, its something that I had before I bought my phone from amazon. I wonder if amazon will eventually sell the iphone.

signed up for AT&T at a mom and pop AT&T reseller and got the Blackberry Curve for 90...sold it on ebay for 415...sold my 8830 on Verizon for 350...bought an iPhone...

so...
-90 for the Curve
+415 selling the Curve on Ebay
+350 selling the 8830
-175 to leave Verizon
-630 on the iPhone including tax

my iPhone cost me 130, not bad...a lot of work, but it was worth it...

Does this plan of attack really work? According to AT&T, the free/discounted phone will come with a sim card and the iPhone sim card is apparently something entirely different. Coming from Verizon (I hope), I am not familiar with sim cards, but the way the AT&T guy described it, when I plugged the iPhone into iTunes for the registration ... it would not work.

Does this only work if you go into an AT&T store and not if you order online? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

The sim chip in the "free Phone" will be activated.
But then when you change to the iPhone the new SIM chip in the Iphone will
become your new SIM.

I was currently a subscriber and I was due for an upgrade
so I Purchased the Nokia N75 when they had it for $50 bucks
Got AT&T to unlock the thing then sold it on ebay for $300 bucks to offset my cost for the iphone.
All perfectly legit.

I signed up with at&t and got myself a blackberry curve for free (corporate discount) then went on to purchase my iPhone 1 month later. Once I got the iPhone I signed up for a new plan with at&t which is basically just renewing my blackberry plan at no cost. So I sat there with a useless curve and decided to sell it. I actually got $310 for my curve.

All in all I basically paid $90 for my iPhone. Not a bad deal if you ask me. I recommend it to everyone who will be a new customer with at&t. (especially if u get a good corporate discount with blackberries like I was lucky enough to have.
