Hey I'm not saying it's not the best smart watch. Was just disappointed realizing how far $700 would get me, when not spent on something I'm not fully proud of. :/

I was surprised at how plain and unassuming the Classic Band was, but overall I think the Watch is "worth" $700 in the Classic or Milanese Loop band combinations. A nice watch like a Tissot or Movado is about that much, and I could tell that the Apple Watch is well built. The stainless steel looks like a nice rectangular watch, albeit a bit thick.

Yes. I had 2 pre-ordered but after my try on appointment today I actually cancelled them. It's just not for me. For what I paid I just personally needed to be way - way more into it than I was. They're just not for everyone and that's the category that I fall into I guess.

I've read a couple threads on this and I like how all the people that give there honest opinion are completely dismissed just because they don't like something with an :apple: slapped on it. Sometimes Apple just misses the mark. I also don't think the watch instantly makes sense like a lot of Apples new products when they debut. Obviously Apple knows that, otherwise they wouldn't be trying to push it as a "fashion statement' over the tech part of it.

I don't see any criticism of people who aren't buying the watch. It isn't for everyone, and I don't think Apple expects it to be. I don't think they missed the mark, though. Watches are called "accessories" for a reason. This is a good solid effort and I think it will be popular over time.

I purchased the sport model for all the reasons above. I am not willing to go all out on a first gen device that will probably get a huge upgrade within 2 years. While I believe the watch looks nice, it definitely doesn't scream "luxery". I more interested in the watches functionality and its future functionality. I do think in the near future, everyone will have a smart watch and the phone will eventually be obsolete. I would be willing to bet the smart watches get considerably bigger to have a better interface. Of course I could be wrong and the apple watch is just another fad that will soon go away.

I think the watch is for hardcore Apple fans, that will buy anything with the apple logo. Just like android wear is for android fans. I just don't see the benefits at the current stage of technology. I'll rather pay $300 for a Real watch.

Same here, I actually cancelled my order after my visit to the Apple Store. Everything about the watch was mediocre, but especially after I realized how underwhelming it was on my wrist. What really set in though was the fact that the screen was off, and will be off for majority of the time the watch is on my hand. That really bothered me.

I'll get a Pebble Steel this year I guess (never thought I'd say that) and wait for Apple Watch V2 in hopes something miraculous happens.

I hate it... but please pay me above retail for it... please.

And that is a problem? He woke up in the wee hours of the morning to get one on day one. Now that he has had the chance to try it out, he doesn't like it. So he could get no money for his time or sell the watch off and get a 100% profit? pretty good pay for waking up in the middle of the night.

I had my appt today and afterwards decided its not for me, and I'm pretty disappointed that is the case I've been looking forward to this for so long and yes I'm an early adopter on all the devices. I preordered it at 3am, so I guess I'm a bit of a fanboy but in person, it just didn't seem like a $634 anything. The try on was just running a demo, and generally it was a lot smaller than I thought it would be in person (42). Since I ordered SS w/ sport band that's what I tried out and a couple others. The aluminum just felt and looked cheap like plastic (IMO). I was encouraged to try a live watch they had on display so after swiping around and seeing spinning circles waiting for apps to load, it actually crashed to an apple logo. As I've said in other posts, i'm certain they will fix the bugs, but overall it's just disappointing and I will probably sell it.

It is bizarre to me that Apple started try-on appointments essentially at the same time as online orders (Aussies had a few hours to think about it). It would have made more sense to offer try-ons for a week before pre-ordering began (why is it called pre-ordering? Ordering before what exactly? It won't be in stores on the 24th).

Many people will have ordered sight unseen and will either cancel after a try-on or after receiving the Watch and changing their mind. That's not good business.

Every person that says they cancelled their order is music to my ears.

Hopefully that means our dates will get pushed up.

The watch is cool i tried it on in the store and i cant wait to get it. Whats really mind blowing is that people are paying 450$ for a link watch band that costs MORE THAN THE SPORT APPLE WATCH! You are literally paying for another apple watch but getting a band.

Apple is saying that a watch band is worth more than a sport edition of the watch....freaking mind blowing.

The Brietling stainless steel link band is $500, and requires a jeweler to add or remove links. It is very well crafted, attractive, and worth the price. The Apple link band is the same quality, with an improved design, and is $50 less.

I guess it is all what you have exposure to.

The price really didn't surprise me at all, and I thought it was reasonable. The price of the sport watch isn't relevant.

Now, the gold models that start at 10K? That also didn't surprise me, but it makes no sense to pay that much for an electronic watch with no heritage. I have no problem with those who choose to do so, but I would never pay that much for a watch that isn't an automatic.

Just my opinion as a watch collector. My tech geek side probably has a different opinion. :)

No disrespect meant to anyone, stainless link bracelets do indeed cost hundreds, this is pretty standard in the industry and not something apple is making up. The watch without the bracelet is pretty moderately priced when compared to entry level, luxury brands that use regular ETA automatic movements... So for a watch person this is probably not seen as that outrageous of a price. There are plenty of just stainless steel watches with sapphire crystals and rubber bracelets selling for thousands.....

I wasn't sure I wanted one, but tentatively pre-ordered the SS with soft pink modern buckle yesterday. I tried it on today and loved it! Unfortunately I have to wait until June for it.

I went by an apple store today and there was only a ten minute wait for try on appointments so I hung out for a bit. I thought it felt great pleasantly surprised by how nice the sport band was and the SS model has just the right amount of heft for a premium feeling device. I feel completely fine with the $600 I spent on my preorder.

Now that I have tried it on it confirmed for me my decision I had already made. That really seems to be the key here. It seems like people who did not have their mind made up already are having a hard time "justifying" the purchase price. Maybe those people just aren't smartwatch people. I really don't know, but I am glad I got to try mine on today :)

i tried the apple watches on yesterday and i gotta say I'm a bit disappointed, i think i expected more as a watch. I've currently got 2 Omega watches (Seamaster & Dark side of the moon) and when trying the apple watches on they felt too light and cheaply built - specially the SS link band which compared to my Seamaster band felt like plastic in comparison).

But thats all my personal preference. I'm wondering if all the people that say the apple watch feels so good and the quality is great, what type of watch they used before this.

The "exposure" part of your post is key. For those not used to paying for higher end watches, the bands are priced actually really reasonable. A replacement steel link bracelet and clasp for my Submariner is $2200, for my Tudor its $900, and my DateJust is $1300. A replacement leather strap and clasp For the Tudor is over $600. So Apple has priced the bands and bracelet very reasonably for the quality and tech involved. It's just that tech guys (and the average person, really) typically aren't used to paying that kind of price for such items.

I had planned on getting a Sports model but missed getting up to do the pre-order. Went to local Apple Store and played with one for a good while. I was kind of underwhelmed after playing with it and will hold off on purchasing one. It is just not worth $400 to me. It is basically a nice little toy but right now I have better uses for my money than an expensive toy. I really didn't see anything it could do that my iPhone does better. Not worth the money to just to keep from pulling my iPhone out of my pocket.

Interesting, Apple watch is for Apple folks and Android wear is for Android folks. Compelling.
