I think they did. I never thought gold would look good on an iPhone and thought it was ugly when I first saw the leaked images. Then when I saw the actual phone demo in the Apple Store I just knew I had to get it.

The Space Gray was a step down from the slate color of the 5 so I knew I wasn't getting that one. Apple made the gold color on the 5s more subtle rather than obnoxious and in your face. Looks pretty classy to me. Quite possibly the best looking iPhone ever.

Since they didn't have any phones in stock to look at except silver and black I had to look at photos online and based on that decided to go with the silver. I am interested to see how the gold looks in real life though

Very much like below to give a hint, and in some lighting conditions, the Champagne color leans to a silver.

The main issue I have with the Space Grey version is the home ring. I like how it's accented on the Gold and Silver versions. Since my wife wants the silver version, I'm thinking about trying to get the gold just for the home ring.

It's just a little weird because Apple's design language is different on the Space Grey vs the Silver/Gold. The Silver/Gold have the home ring colored the same as the body. The Grey doesn't. It's just kind of weird.

But I imagine more people like the 'slab of black' than would have a grey accent ring.

I've got the complete opposite opinion. For me, the iPhone was the only phone with a truly minimalistisch design. The colored ring kinda ruined that. I'm very happy the space gray 5S almost does not show the ring at all.

Right, that's why it's an opinion ;).

Like I said, I'm sure Apple pleased more users with the black home ring. They just didn't please me :p

A photo of mine against my kitchen accent tile which is green with gold highlights.

Are you sure about that? Google gold cellular phones and you will find many old gold colored phones from the past..

Apple definitely did well in styling the Gold, It does look very good. I always go for the Black phone because its my favourite color and I don't like people stairing at my phone (as i have seen with freinds who own the gold phone)..I tried convincing myself for the gold but stuck with the space gray...I quite like the fact that people cannot distinguish it from the classic 5..

I'd suggest you read your email...

Also, make some folders. :D
I hate folders! I refuse the use them. And one of my many mailboxes is full of years worth of spam. :p

I think Apple did a good job with the gold. it's a dull champagne color. Not a bling bling shinny bright gold.

When the 4S was released, the white version was the model to get because the white 4 was never really made available (only until later stages). It is that trend that we are seeing with the gold 5S.

Apple didn't make gold popular...Asians and rappers did :D

I like the gold iPhone as it isn't tacky 24K gold colored. I wonder if Apple went and called the color "Champaign" would people be as excited about it? Placebo effect...

I agree with you totally about the 24K gold color. As an Indian (the original one :)), I would have never gotten gold phone if it was true gold color. Gold iPhone has a class with just a little bit hint of bling.

The problem with the Gold is that people aren't really buying it cause they WANT a Gold phone but because it is 'different.' If Apple had announced a "****-colored phone" and it was the *new* thing that hadn't been seen before, people would've bough it. Even on here, everyone who bought a gold is saying that they got it because they "wanted a change from black" or because "people will be able to tell it is the iPhone 5S." If you had customers months ago what new color option they would like to see in the next release, none would've said "gold."

So TL;DR - most people bough the gold cause it was different and to show off that they got a 5S.

Hence the title of the thread..

I don't get why do you care? Buy the color you like and leave it at that. I don't get all of the hating.

I think so... Last month not many people would rock the gold color phones and today it is the color to get.

It's really amazing what Apple influences can do!

Rock is not a verb. Please stop using it as such.

Around spring time this year in the UK gold accessories and watches were quite popular. As fashion goes it's passed now but people are still wearing gold a lot.

Apple didnt pioneer this but they have launched it at the right time and i think they will allow gold to string out it's appeal now it's attached to something desirable like the iPhone.
