Sorry no. Slinir is dead to me now with the terrible performance. Official Chrome is out. Guess what, chop city.

BTW, guys, do you know whether it's possible to call _setDrawInWebThread() from a Cydia hack? I'm not that into hooking into other apps, unlike stuff like camera programming.

To make scrolling fluid with all AppStore browsers, as they are not allowed to call it. It'd suffice to call it from a hack for every / a chosen (just like with Nitrous) app to enable proper scrolling.

I know there is a LOT you can do if you jailbreak, but I don;t go that route. I want Apple to get their pretentious heads out of their pretentious asses & listen to what customers want. True flexibility & customizability.

Sorry to say but if that's what you really want, you shouldn't buy Apple products. They've kind of set themselves apart by doing just the opposite.

Why doesn't the option to change user agent works?
Is it because on iOS you guys have to resort to using the underlying safari engine and it simply changes the headers at will and puts safari mobile as user agent?

I found it appropriate to discuss here, since it might seem as either you guys have a bug, or Apple is "sabotaging" as the OP implies.

Hi, sorry for the delay, Obon holiday is very long:eek:
I am assuming you are talking about the user agent option on the iOS version of Sleipnir? (The UA in the Mac version can be changed to mobile)

The developers here have tested, and could not find any issues.
Please could you provide some more details.

I see how Sleipnir has been added as a browser that is "not smooth" but no issues could be found.
I would like to know what this was based on.

Thank you

Hi.

Well indeed, on the iOS version I switched the agent, but then it seems it wasn't changed at all, checking with a "sniff my agent" website.
I didn't have the chance to delve into the issue more (sniffing on the HTTP header myself and so) but then I took it as it didn't work.

I basically go to advanced settings and select the agent (two options come up, select or copy) and then nothing happens (it appears as selected but the agent is not changed) and if I copy and then paste on "Enter new..." same happens.

Are you joking? You're part of the dev team but don't know what this whole thread refers to?

Please, if you get further with this line of thinking, let us know, I will jailbreak instantly.

A new version of Sleipnir has been released. Smooth scrolling is back...

Well done Sleipnir team. It is now again my default browser.

There are a number of problems with Atomic which drive me crazy and have made me consider dumping it.. But I have stuck with it, and still like it.

I was encouraged this week that v7 is out.. But its gone from the UK App store.. You simply can't download it, so I can't upgrade.

I have written to the developer a few times and had nothing back, so I am not sure what to do now...

I wonder if I should just get the message, and move on...

Anyone know anything about this?

Jon

Atomic shows up in the UK store for me but it is v5.6. No sign of a new version on the App Store or the developers site or Twitter.

Thanks. I wonder if these guys are all using the private API again to attain smooth scrolling hence it being pulled?

Good point.. Thats what happened before... I assumed it was just pulled from the UK store.. I wonder whether its available on the US store too?

I have opened a new post about this, as I wondered if this question would get overlooked since I have hijacked another thread...

I am gutted to be honest.. The new version talks about being compatible with IOS6.. Does this mean that my version (6) doesn't work with IOS6? So what happens when I finally get around to upgrading.. Or what happens if I accidentally delete Atomic, or I get a problem where I have to remove it...

At the moment, I can't download it again.. I am seriously tempted to dump it and try something else.. But I just don't want to give up on it as I really like it.

I'm using version 6 just now and it works fine under IOS6 - why don't you just install the lite version in the interim until the full version is back available? I think the only difference was ads. I noticed on the change log that it says performance improvements when running under IOS 6 so maybe there is a new API in IOS6 that allows for improved scrolling and it as been pulled for another reason? If so then I would expect to see it make a reappearance in the next week or two.

Because I still have my version installed.. And the Lite version is old older than what I have.

So no point in changing to the Lite version.. But I guess I could use the Lite version IF mine gets removed..

I would still like to know whether I am wasting my time waiting for V7

Ah, I didn't realise you still had the full version installed - it will work fine. If v7 was just released then I would image it will make another appearance - that says the dev has not abandoned it. I would hold off for it as I know I will be. As an fyi, this is the same blurb from Perfect browser update log so it looks like IOS6 improves performance and rendering:

✔ Much Faster, Smoother Page Rendering and Zooming (requires iOS 6)

The only solution would be to backup the app to iTunes on your computer either via a sync or by "Transferring purchases." Then you'll have the app backed up and can reinstall that version of it whenever you need to.

Atomic 7.0.1 is back up in the App Store this morning. Smooth scrolling and finally retina support on the iPad. Great update. :)

Got it yesterday and am very happy. I immediately reported a bug.. When you type (for example on a forum), spelling mistakes arn't indicated.. You can still tap the word and get a 'suggestion', but the dotted red line isn't shown.

However, after writing them a mail, I went to Safari and it didn't work their either.. So then I went back to the "lite" version of Atomic (5.6) and its the same as 7.0.1..

So did I make it up? Did I dream it? Did Atomic ever show spelling mistakes (like, for example email does).. It does in the search bar at the top.. But not in a field in the browser..

Can anyone confirm if I am going mad?

Also, there is one "bug" still present which drives me crazy.. When you click on a link on a given page, the browser follows the link, but URL at the top does not update until the page has loaded.. Sometimes it doesn't change at all.. So if you want to bookmark the page, you can't because the URL isn't updated. Atomic has always worked like this and I would like to think they would fix it, so that the URL changes the second you click a link.

I think this is related but when I am typing in a field such as replying to this post and then go back to edit text i.e. drag my finger with the search bubble, I get no cursor so you need to guess where the cursor will be to start typing. The text does get entered where you dragged your finger too, it just doesn't show the cursor to facilitate this. I think this has been an issue since upgrading to IOS6 as it used to work fine before. Other apps such as Pages work fine though so it seems related to the browser.

It seems most browsers are slowly reverting to smooth scrolling. Personally now using maxthon with mercury in the mix.

How long has it taken...glad this ***** is over.

I see how Sleipnir has been added as a browser that is "not smooth" but no issues could be found.

Thank you

Hi,
you are at the so damn right adress here cause I'm a UX designer for iPad presentation systems and tested many browsers (see list in my post) because I wanted a browser that is made for touch interaction and not only copies the old button metaphors. Sleipnir is way ahead of the other browsers in my opinion. Not in features, but a good set of. (Nobody can beat Icab, but you need a quicksearch function in the options ;-)

Sleipnir

// how can I enter an URL in fullscreen mode? Whats the correct way?
I now help myself by click at search (in tab context or homescreen) and the change to the URL adressbar. Not very elegant and fiddly.

// please, please go on android 4 into the stock browser and there in the options. There is a tab called Lab and there is an option for a circle quick control menu that is really awesome. Then you slide from outer into the screen and this radial menu appears with the most used commands like back and new tab. You can even switch the tab with a thumbnail.
Since I used it for some hours I always try to make the gesture on the ipad and would love to see this implemented. The browser called Maven has a similar function on ipad but with less features.

// One thing I really love in opera on the desktop is how damn easy it is to put a search engine into your searchbar. You simply right click into the input field of your favorite site and there is an option to add this field int yours. There is no mobile browser that has this feature. Mostly you have to copy some cryptic post-message-URL into the options (like in icab) that no standard user understand. Why not click and hold into an input field and in the bubble there is an option like "add to sleipnir".

Because ot the scrolling, in 2.1.3 on iPad 2 it runs smooth. I will test it on iPad 1 as well.

Bye,
Daniel
