Hey guys

Just bought myself a 64GB 3G iPad from a listing on Gumtree. It's second handed and the guy claims he lost the box and the power lead, so all I got is the iPad itself and the USB cable.

So what do you think? Stolen or legit? Is there any way to find out for certain, eg. by using the serial number.

Thanks in advance.

Yani

I know someone who had his WiFi iPad stolen out of his vehicle. He didn't have mobileme and he called Apple. They told him that there was nothing that they could do, even though he had registered it.

So even if your iPad is HOT, there is no way for it to be traced back to you.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

If the iPad was reported stolen, you would not be able to activate it in iTunes.
Not true at all..
Do you have proof of this?
Wont matter apple does not care

read through some of the Stolen Apple product threads ... the thing may even have AppleCare on it. Apple does not help track stolen products
Bingo this one is true.

Basically don't worry about it
Apple could care less if your iPad is stolen. They just want you to buy apps!

Apple will still honor the apple care on it as it's linked to the serial number (if the previous owner bought it) but won't really care unless it was linked to a serious robbery, like a shipment of brand new devices. As long as the serial number was purchased originally by an end user, apple has no interest in where you got it. That is when it becomes a matter for the original owner. And in the interest of privacy they would never tell you who previously purchased it.

that could be because the wifi ipad doesnt have GPS

Missing iPad

I too am subject to a missing iPad. We purchased one for my Dad and looks like we had some uninvited guests in the house who had some sticky fingers and grabbed it when he wasn't around.

Contacted Apple, thinking they could track it if iTunes registers the product when someone connects. Apple said it was still tied to the account I registered it with. Apple said it will stay with the registered owner of the iPad until someone else registers it with a new e-mail address.

Not sure how correct that is, thought I share.
