Apple claims to have fixed the accelerometer with iOS 7.0.3, but I'm having mixed results. My 5S went from -3 to -1 on it's back, but went from 0 to 1 on one side and 3 to 2 on another. Basically it's still not calibrated. I'm curious how many people's phone is working now.

take your case off and try again.

Case was off. Playing with a bubble level if can see that on the right and bottom, the level is between 1 and 2, which is why it frequently shows 2 for them as it's around 1.5 and doesn't take much to push it to 2. The left and top are closer to 1, as is the back, which is between 0 and 1.

My left side actually went from -1 in 7.0.2 to +1 in 7.0.3. With the exception of the back, all the negative values are now positive. My phone didn't match the pattern though as all 4 sides had different values.

Mine is somewhat correct now.

It shows 0° on a flat surface.
However it also shows 0° on a surface that should show up to 3°...

It will be interesting to see the results of more in depth testing to establish what the new software release does with regard to sensor accuracy. Does it just mask the issue with a crowd pleasing 0°, dumb the accuracy or genuinely fix it in most phones but there are still problem units ??

It shows something like 2° at first, but then slowly changes to 1° and then 0°.

1 on back, 0 on all sides but that's what mine has always been, since the day I got it (Monday after launch day).

Remains to be seen, either they fixed it or "re-adjusted the bars to mask the problem" as they did in antenna gate.

i think they just masked the problem. as when i run iHandy and Clinometer it is showing the same results as before.

It's got to be a hardware problem that they are trying to fix using software. I don't think it will ever be perfect because people are complaining about mixed readings. If everyone was out by 2 then that would make it easier for apple to fix lol

Mine reads zero everywhere except bottom which is -1. Even when on zero on some sides the horizon line is still out so it's just scraping into zero if that makes sense.

Tried a flight sim, seems ok, very marginally off but ok.

Overall it will do for me........I'm not intending to build a house with it, just wanted somewhat accurate :)

You guys realize that the only sides that would be of any use are the right side and the bottom? The left side has buttons that potrude and so does the top. Seems to me it's working fine. Find something else to better do with your time

Was this aimed at me?? If it was, I said I am happy with it now..........if not :)

Edit: I see it was aimed generally, I apologise :)

Agreed we need to try to move on now........if anyone's is still way out then speak with Apple.

From -4, to -1 on the back. Need for Speed now plays perfect & doesn't crash into a wall when the device is laying flat on it's back :D

Everything was perfect after the update and it still is this morning; zeros with straight line for level, etc.

TBH, I bought the phone from Best Buy knowing it was a problem a couple of weeks ago. I only bought it because my contract was up and I wanted my new sailor son to have a smartphone before going overseas for three years--gave him my 4S. Anyway, I took a risk with the 5S thinking that if it turned out to be a hardware issue I could return it. The issues didn't affect my usage at all as I use none of those features anyway, but I was thinking it would affect resale value. My 14 day period is up today, glad it was fixed. At least on my phone anyway. :)

Okay people with the -1 back please rotate the phone while it is on the back and see if it zero's out it does for me.......but it should not be the case.

I am going to try the 90 min DND and see if it sorts the matter out.

The fact that uncalibrated 3 party apps are giving the readings it seems that it was a fix not a botch. Having said that, i was convinced it was hardware as different phones were showing different readings, shows how little i know about this stuff even thou i have a BEng :)
