I'm sorry I'm not too Mac-savvy... WWDC? AD? What do you mean?

And you want me to write to "Steve" as in "the Boss"? I don't have his e-mail address in my contact list, I must admit :)

Yepp stever, the big boss man
steve@apple.com

it came in your mac os x address book, that you cant currently access......DUH!!!

Update:

The PR-guy at Apple Belgium just wrote back. He says he read my complaint, will be out of office today (monday) but will try and find a solution with Customer Service/AppleCare, even though he can't do much. "Everybody sticks to his job", he adds.

So there you go, it's a small step but at least I got their attention.

Did the PR respond to the Digg story or the story in the media?

Neither, I sent him a copy of the mail I sent to Apple Belgium. I don't know if they're aware of the Digg story. Now I wonder if I should wait for a response are call AppleCare and negociate it over the phone as well.

Is it reasonable to ask for a Black replacement, or am I just daydreaming here?

You're dreaming. It's reasonable to ask for them to give you a new one of what you have. Asking for MORE than what you bought for your "inconvenience" or whatever is not reasonable. You could maybe ask for a free accessory or a $100 credit or something- but not an upgraded model.

Are you nuts?

It absolutely is reasonable.

I had a thinkpad replaced by IBM with a brand new top of the line model a couple years back. Had a T23 replaced with a T42p. No questions asked. They even bumped the ram to 2gb for me.

We are talking about the freaking color here. Doesn't cost apple a penny more to ship him a black one.

I have heard multiple stories about IBM/Lenovo doing this for customers. I had a bad Thinkpad once and they were fantastic about sending a new one right away... and this was after I owned it for awhile.

Apple's service is nothing like that of IBM/Lenovo, so I doubt they will do this for him. It is sad and I agree 100% that Apple should do this for him... but they won't. I have had countless issues with Apple products over the years and I wrote to PR and Steve to voice my concerns and their response was basically "too bad". They never offered me any compensation.

Not true. Go to the Apple online store and check out the price difference between the white MacBook and the black one.

Agreed, but that's just a commercial move. They know people will be willing to pay more for something that arguably looks better. But besides the better HD, don't tell me black plastic costs more at production than white plastic. If it does, it must be a matter of cents.

Um... I realize that you already did, but take it off.

Give Apple a chance to deal with it before you go public. It's not fair or reasonable to go public without giving them a chance to fix it.

I can tell you from my experience, that your MacBook will be replaced.

Did you read the entire thread?

I'm a journalist for the country's #1 youth radio station. "Going public" will mean something else than a few lines on the internet, trust me ;)

He already did give them a chance. Apple should have had a replacement in the mail the second they heard about it. If this does not get resolved Tuesday, I would hope the OP goes truely public and uses his journalist ability to the max.

For the last few weeks my MacBook (purchased the first day they came out) gives me that multi-colored screen everytime I start from a complete powered down state. A PRAM reset solves the problem - until the next power down.

Off to the Apple Store I go...

The multicoloured lines are what happened to my iBook when it suffered from a cracked logic board/graphics chipset. Could the bubble be associated with capacitors, like the leaking ones that came in early G5 iMacs? Anyone?

I had similar lines on my 1ghz powerbook g4, and apple replaced the logic board. And the screen because of "bright edges" but i just hated a big cat claw scratch in it.

The bubble thing is weirdd. Pictures?

After long negociations, Apple has agreed to replace it. I was negociating on two fronts: AppleCare (no luck there, it always remained "no way, no replacement, only repair"), and the PR-section, playing the "I'm a journalist" card. That worked like a charm. My mail was sent to Ireland, where someone told me the replacement was agreed for. I don't know if I'll get a black one, like I asked, or if I just get "the same but another". I'll keep you posted on that. Pray with me: let it be black!

Congrats on sticking with it...I don't understand how AppleCare could deny you a replacement based on what happened with it, but at least you eventually got what you deserved!

Yup. Shame that I had to play that "journalist" card, though. Every customer should be treated equally well, methinks. But hey, I'm glad.

New update:

My request to have my white macbook replaced by a black one has been accepted as well.

So AppleCare does take care of quality problems you might encounter.
Special big-up  to the Dopi Apple Center in Brussels, they were very helpful and friendly.
