All it takes is one occurrence of loss to make people THINK they always need to buy the insurance. Many times, someone else's tale of loss is all it takes.

I got the Applecare a couple years ago on my 4s, but no more. Especially since it doesn't cover everything, and has a (growing) deductible. Now I'm self-insured.

That being said, I'm on pins and needles as the 16 and 13 year-old just upgraded phones. :)

I purchased AppleCare+, and glad I did. We just had our 20 month iPad3 replaced for the Home Button not working properly.

I got AppleCare for iPad Air since I take it to work with me every day. It leaves the house so often I feel more comfortable having the accidental damage protection, especially since I bought the 128gb cellular version.

i wish applecare for ipad was different pricing for everybody. i feel retarded paying the same as someone who spent twice as much.

Never got it for my iPads 1gen and 3gen) and bought it for my iphone 4 I used to have. I'd rather save my cash and upgrade to a newer model then pay to replace an older one. Yes I know there is a price difference when doing that but to me it's more worthwhile.

Same as you. I bought the 128gb cellular model. No way I would leave the store without Applecare on that. I also carry mine to work everyday. I like not having to be careful.

I did get get apple care this time on my new Air. I paid a good buck for it so why not? Hopefully I don't ever need it but it's nice to know its there.

I'm happy I have AppleCare on our Macs -- and have in fact taken advantage of it several times and it's already paid for itself. In fact, I bought the machines used, specifically looked for ones that had AppleCare remaining, and I only paid a slight premium.

For cheaper and less complicated items like our iPhones, iPods, and iPads, I don't get AppleCare (and we've had many of them!). I don't think the economics pencil out in the long run.

It depends on what you are spending.

My iPad Mini is worth 480. Applecare is 100. That's 20% the cost of the device I'm protecting. No way.
My iPhone is worh 900. Applecare is 100. A little over 10% of the cost of the device. Worth it. Also phones are more vulnerable than tablets.

For a mac I would buy it, first of all because it's usually a huge purchase, and secondly because it adds 2 extra years. Many things can go wrong during those 2 years, and I expect my computers to perform well for at least 3-4 years.

In fairness I think the cost of the applecare should be correlated to the cost of the device. For the 32GB iPad Mini it's not a good deal.

I didn't buy it on the iPad 1 or 3, but those were cheaper wifi models and they almost never left the house. With my 32GB LTE retina Mini, I felt the price of AppleCare was worth it especially since I'll be carrying it around quite a bit, so it'll be exposed to the world a lot more than my previous iPads were.

I still wouldn't get it on a 16GB full-size iPad, though. For me, AppleCare always depends on both the total price of the product as well as the usage scenario. I wouldn't buy it on a desktop iMac, but I did get it on my MacBook Pro, for example.

I opted for the AppleCare on my new iPad mini retina, mainly because I got the cell version and for the accidental drop coverage. I plan on having it with me on the go a lot so I didn't want to take any chances. If I had just gotten the Wi-Fi version and only planned to use it at home, I probably would not have. I have AppleCare on my iPhone 5s for the same reason. The peace of mind is well worth it. Ironically, it helps me to relax more when using my devices and makes it less likely that I will ever have to use it.
