I bought my 16" last December. The battery is currently at 91.5% ...no sorry, 90.9% as of today. It keeps going down!!

I'm really thinking about going into the apple store and complaining before my 1 year is up. I regrettably waited too long to buy apple care and they refused when I tried to buy it late.

I have a 7 year old Macbook Air and its battery is at 83.9%. So obviously things are not going well for my new MBP battery.

Mine is 88% after only 5 months.
Somehow this model behaves this way under Catalina battery health management.
The important thing is if you still get expected battery life. Mine still last ~8h under normal use, so I am good.

Mine has dropped to 85% after 10 months!
Should I take it into Apple >>>>>???
Should I be worried ?

89% on mine and it's been using the "manage battery longevity" setting throughout. Only completed 37 cycles. Logged on to see if anyone else is seeing this kind of massive drop over just a year. This thing was a battery beast when it was new, but it doesn't seem to be built for the long haul unfortunately.

Is your battery made by Simplo or DSY ?

So looks like the batteries suck in these 16" macbook pros.

Has anyone had any luck getting apple to replace a battery due to such a loss of capacity within the first year?

Do you have battery health feature enabled? If so, that is why its reporting like that. The 16" MBP, 2020 MBP 13" and MBA all behave the same.
Could you clarify? I think you may be mistaken on that. Battery health management might make your charge percentage appear low when ‘not charging’ but it should not make your total battery capacity appear lower, correct?

Plenty of threads if you search around that show the full charge capacity is lowered sianicanftly when the feature is enabled, and goes back to its real value when disabled

You sure about that? I don't think so...

I just disabled battery health, restarted, and checked and my battery health is now at 90.1 (was at 90.9 when i posted the OP so its deteriorating rapidly)

I think you are confusing full charge amount with capacity. You can only check battery capacity using a 3rd party app like coconutbattery. I'm not talking about the percentage apple shows you in the menu bar.

Apple says my battery is fully charged at 100%, yes sometimes that number goes down due to battery health management, but my battery capacity is down to 90.1% according to coconut battery, whether battery health is on or off. That's the number I'm talking about

Thank you for that, I'm definitely interested in learning if this is true, but wondering why when I turn off battery health management, coconut battery still says I'm at 90.1% capacity.

I tried shutting down my computer again to see if it changes, but still 90.1.

I hope what you are saying is true... but I'm just not convinced yet. Thanks

Only reason I believe it is because I saw the same happen with my MBP, and saw the many other threads on here and Reddit about the same issue only happening after the 10.15.5 update

Did you see your battery capacity in coconut battery go back up after disabling battery health management?

I'm going to leave battery health management off for a while and see if it changes..

It would really make sense if this were the way apple was limiting the battery charge. But then why does it stop charging at 90% or whatever sometimes on the menu bar display? Why would it limit the total capacity as seen in coconut battery, AND limit the total charge on the display on the menu bar? Doesn't make much sense

Is that because you have a DSY battery or because you’ve had battery health management turned off?

mine is simplo...

Btw mine still says 90.1 % with battery health turned off for a day. I don’t feel like it’s going to go back up. Either battery health management permanently degrades battery capacity, or they’re unrelated. I’d like to see more coconut battery screenshots to compare simplo vs dsy batteries.
