TLDR: I'm not happy with the long-term battery health of these 16" MBPs. My battery capacity dropped 16% in 10 months. Here are my stats:

Battery manufacturer: DSY
Battery manufacture date: October 2019
Computer acquired date: February 2020 (~10 months of use)
Health: 84%
Cycles: 147
Condition: Normal
Design capacity: 8790 mAh
Current capacity: 7400 mAh
Capacity drop: ~1400 mAh (~16%)

"Battery health management" has been turned on since its debut in macOS 10.15.5 back in June. I use the computer most often at a desk plugged in to power constantly as well as a 4K external display.

Here's more detail on mine, with battery health management on. Mine is Simplo battery and my MBP is plugged in almost all the time.

There are two anecdotal evidences that I observed
1. If the MBP is plugged in most of the time, the battery health management reduces the battery capacity more aggressively
2. Simplo batteries generally have worse degradation than DSY batteries.

Is the only way to check up on this via a 3rd party app? Mine's lived almost exclusively on the dock since I need to regularly remote in to a windows machine for work. Not sure what that's done to the battery.

3rd party apps can go into more detail, but you can learn a lot just from System Information > Power

So long as you're still getting the expected run-time on battery that you had when you bought it, I wouldn't worry about it. We have two here, one is a launch machine and I still get the amount of time on battery that I did one day one. macOS says its healthy (system info, power), so that's all I'm bothered about to be honest and I suspect that's what Apple would be interested-in too.

I bought my 16" last December. The battery is currently at 91.5% ...no sorry, 90.9% as of today. It keeps going down!!

I'm really thinking about going into the apple store and complaining before my 1 year is up. I regrettably waited too long to buy apple care and they refused when I tried to buy it late.

I have a 7 year old Macbook Air and its battery is at 83.9%. So obviously things are not going well for my new MBP battery.
They changed their policy so that you can buy it anytime within the first year now:

Aw, you got me excited.

the website says it’s ineligible when I enter my serial number. Maybe I should try talking to a rep. Maybe that only applies to items sold after they made the change though.

My machine was built 1/13, but the battery says it was built 11/30/79, so i'm not sure that can be trusted. Either way it has 82.7% of design capacity with 62 cycle counts. Not good.

I purposely never installed a Coconut Battery so I would not be tempted to get obsessed about Battery Health. Especially since it moves up and down.

Not macbook Pro, but same simplo battery and similar age. I tried most of the time keep the battery within 45% - 75%. Also, every day, for the 1st 1-2 hours, let the macbook use their battery, before it plugged to the charger.

My 2018 15” lost 11% in one year (Mojave) but I just got it replaced 3 days ago and updated to Catalina, let’s see how battery management helps my battery. Seems like the iPhone batteries are the best, 770 cycles and 89% battery health before the device was replaced for a defect.
