I just want to say I love my iPhone and have had several, starting with the 3G.

Back then, not many people had them and we only had AT&T. Some say it was a status symbol of some sort, but I just liked the integration with the other Apple products I had at the time. There was no other phone like it, touch screen, the apps, etc.

Anyway, it seems that everyone has a iPhone now and it almost seems too common or ordinary.

I was picking up my son from school and the parents were waiting outside. A mother was there with her early teens daughter who had a white iPhone 4S with a pink bumper. I was like ugh, I need to get a new phone. I wouldn't pay $80 a month for my kid to text and use Facebook.

Obviously, ubiquitous is the opposite of "status". Luckily for you there are plenty of great smart phones on the market these days. HTC has just released One X model that got rave reviews. Samsung is expected to release their super phone (Galaxy S3) within a month (and their Galaxy Nexus is in many respects better than iPhone 4S).

2. I never said it bothered me, just meant it was too common. Before it was popular and only on AT&T people had different phones, now everyone has the same phone. It's kind of like when everyone had a Blackberry before 2007.

I don't understand why this is bad. More iOS users will just make the app store bigger and better. I think Apple wants their phone to be popular. You can always get a case that says,"I liked the iPhone before it got popular."

What makes you say it was an iPhone 4s? It could have been the mother's old iPhone 4. If you want something new... Pick up a rock and pretend it's the next greatest thing. Call it iRock.

This is pretty normal. Most users around the world use an iPhone. You'll notice that the iPhone is more common than any other phone because they have sold THAT many iPhones. Apple has sold more phones of a single model than any other phone in the world. If you want exclusivity, I would suggest a Peter Alloison iPhone or a jeweled one. If you want something with premium materials, Vertu makes some pretty exclusive phones. In NYC, Vertus are still pretty common in my area. The next level up would be a private production phone but those can get pretty pricey for just a plastic phone.

My 16-year-old nephew has the exact opposite problem as the OP. He has the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch. When he takes out his phone, people are like, "Oh, what phone is that?" He used to act like he was so cool and say, "Well, it's the Epic 4G Touch". He's heard that question so many times now (sometimes by the same person), he just gets annoyed that people don't know what it is by now. Now he wishes he had an iPhone or a Galaxy Note. Can't make everyone happy, I guess.
