This might come across as a really dumb question, but do Apple Stores carry glossy MacBook Pros in-stock? Because the online Apple Store makes it seems as if the matte is "standard" and glossy the no-cost "upgrade"

Thanks!

Yep. The Apple stores carry both the glossy and matte MBPs in stock :)

I got a MBP this past Christmas as a present, and I had told my parent that I wanted a glossy screen without having seen both side by side. I was reading forums like this one hearing horror stories of glossy screens and how bad they were, and I started to freak out knowing I probably got the wrong laptop.

Having used the laptop for several months, even in the standard office/cubicle/fluorescent lighting environment, I'm overly impressed with the screen. Yes, there are some reflections, but when I'm doing hours of graphic/web design work, not once do I stop and say "Damn that overhead light reflection is bothering me!" I could see why people would like either one, and I probably would have been happy with a matte screen as well. It's more a matter of what your preference is, and if seeing little reflections bothers the heck out of you

For what it's worth I just a Black MacBook - which of course only comes in glossy. I was worried about it. Now that I have it home I much prefer it to my G5 iMac screen - if that helps.

What do you do if you are getting more and more interested in photography (and want accurate colors when editing) but also want sharper text and more vibrant movie watching?

I know for sure that I am getting a MBP in June after WWDC, but I'm just not sure which screen to get. Does the glossy display alter accurate colors in photographs that much?

I'm leaning towards glossy, but I don't want my photos looking beautiful on the computer and like crap in prints. Are there any color profile altering programs that can provide a glossy display with more accurate colors? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of getting one anyway?

I wish I didn't have a choice. :p

Apple sent us a couple of loaners , one of each, at work as we were in the market. Glossy were terrible. Oversaturated, terrible color representation. That and the fact that every light reflected on the screen. We almost had to turn all the lights off and close the shades to see. That being said, it was an easy choice to go for the matte.

Monitor calibration will have a greater impact on the disparity between what you see on your screen as opposed to what you get when you print. I have a Dell 2007FP and there is a big difference between the two. At some point we're going to have to buy a hardware monitor calibrator because the difference isn't even close. The only way for a monitor to accurately display colors is by calibrating, regardless if it's glossy OR matte
