I don't care if you waste money on AC but I'm correcting people's various misconceptions like getting top dollar in a pristine watch sale (paying $118 or more defeats that) and that the Watch is somehow more damage prone than the easily droppable and non-water resistant iPhone.

The OP asked whether or not we bought AC+ (read the thread topic) so I'm free to contribute my post. I suggest you move along.
Correct. The OP asked if people bought it or not. He/she didn't ask for you to argue with everyone's reason for buying it or not.

reason i'm going back and forth about buying the insurance (and i have to decide pretty much this weekend) is it is $50 for the care and then another 70 if you have to use it. so $120 if you need to use the insurance really.

but it is better than $229....yeah, better get it :) thanks for the help deciding.

Insurance is one of those things you hope you never need. I just wrote a check for $37K for my company's Liability insurance for another year. Never had a single claim in 23 years but it only takes one time these days to ruin you. What is costly is the Umbrella. It is not so expensive but you got to pay extra on all your other policies to meet when the umbrella starts!

I think there is 60 day window from the day you buy it. I think I will get it since its only like $50 for sport model.

I did. But then, I also get it for my phones (I don't use a case.... apple care IS my case). I also got it for our iMacs and hubby's Air, too.

Not originally but after bashing it I thought it might be prudent. (I'm not like some on here that want a replacement for the least little thing). A few scratches I can live with, a cracked screen maybe not.

Giving the excellent product history I've had with all Apple products, I tend to never go with Apple Care.

I used to think that but have had multiple product failures* where Apple care saved the day. Two iPhone models were replaced after the first year. My Mac mini got a new logic board after first year, and my Time Capsule (Airport part died) was covered by the Apple care I purchased almost two years later with my rMBP, per their rules.

Reselling products before Apple care expires is another way to get top dollar.

*Edited to clarify that my iPhones were replaced because of failures, not accidental damage, which seems to be what everyone is focusing on regarding the need for Apple Care.

I got Apple Care + for my watch. Generally I don't purchase protection plans, but knowing that the watch will be on my wrist all day and, as others have noted, subject to banging into things as I move through the day, I felt it was worth the expense.

Curious if you got it and have you used it? Can you get your watch serviced at the store now?

I'm not sure if I should purchase apple care. seems like by the time I have problems with the watch it might be time for a new one. Curious on your take on apple watch. I have never got it for my phone and have never needed to use it.
We had not but today my wife's watch fell 2-1/2 ft to a tile floor and this happened.

I usually don't buy Apple Care or any store insurance program since they are usually more expensive and run out before you would use them as you said. However, I got it for the watch since it is a new technology and they won't be replacing it in the next couple years. This model is here for at least 2 years...you'll see lots of software updates in that time and many more bands to make your watch "new" again...so with the expense of the SS version, I figured Apple Care would be worth it if something went wrong inside the watch. Just my 2 cents, everyone has their own personal preferences and philosophies when it comes to insurance of course...

Sorry to hear. I've adopted a golden rule similar to iPhone's "If it's not in your hand, it's in your pocket and if it's not in your pocket, it's in your hand."

The Watch's golden rule is as follows: If it's not on your wrist, it's on the charging stand and if it's not on the charging stand, it's on your wrist.

I've owned two iPods, two iPads, a MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air, Apple TV, and four iPhones with no issues. I opted not to get AC for my Apple Watch as a result. I am ridiculously cautious with my gadgets so it's a risk well worth taking (knock on wood).

I can certainly appreciate what it's like to be "ridiculously cautious" with gadgets and I'm reassured that I'm in good company. When the lock button failed on my iPhone 4S during the second year, it could have passed for brand new. I guess what I mean is I don't even consider the possibility of accidental damage when I buy Apple Care+. I bought Apple Care for my Watch because I enjoy the peace of mind, have had some Apple items fail, and want to enhance my resale options, but Watch is a device Apple has never made before and for which there is no track record.

I did end up getting it for a couple reasons. It's an all new device with unknown reliability. The second is if I upgrade next year it's incentive for a perspective buyer to not have to worry about issues.

i bought apple care because almost all of my watches get bumped around and scuffed up at some point. for me, its worth the extra few bucks.

We don't usually get Apple Care on our products but for the Watch being a first gen decided it might be worth it this time. Plus even with the AW and a sapphire glass screen it could shatter given the right circumstance. My iPhone sits most of the time in my purse but the watch is on me all the time and exposed to the world. My luck if I didn't it would go out of warranty and I'd be taking off my sport band and it slips from my fingers and crashes at just the right angle. I did have a battery discharging issue the first two days I had it, so potentially that could be an issue down the road. Plus I figure I wouldn't update it being SS until at least two years out if not more so it will be covered during that time. Probably more peace of mind.

Don't forget that you can get a pro-rata refund if you cancel the policy.
I plan on keeping the watch for 2 years.
However, IF they release the Watch2 early next year, and I haven't made a claim, I can get a 50% refund.
If I did make a claim in that time, then it was worth buying it.

I'm normally not a "Apple Care Guy" but I am for my Apple Watch. I volunteer on a mountain bike trail crew and do a ton of mountain/fat biking so I'm always getting banged up. Better safe than sorry.
