for the type of work that i perform, i think any i processor laptop should sufficed. So i guess i just wanted a mbp instead of just any pc laptop.

Just wondering... a survey/poll.
What exactly made you get the MacBook Pro? Is it because you "NEED" or "WANT" a MacBook Pro?

I keep asking myself this question, why would someone "WANT" a MacBook Pro if Windows laptop can probably do the same stuff better, especially when people ask about how well the 13" MBP can play games, but we tell them to go with the 15", then they say it's too expensive, so why not a Windows computer?

Post your reasons why you "NEEDED" or "WANTED" a MBP.

My reason, I'm going to college soon and I wanted a laptop that has power to do stuff and the battery to last me 7-8hrs+ surfing, etc. It was also very portable.

My true reason that I "NEEDED" a MBP because I hope to work for Apple one day and that I also got an internship with Apple. I assume you need to know their OSx if you want an internship with them right? It'll be a bit embarrassing if they tell you to do stuff on a computer and you don't know how to run the OSx.
Another reason was because I love time machine, it has already saved me one time when I accidentally deleted my essay.

My reasons:
- Battery life
- Music Production ( Logic & Superior Latency in comparison to any Windows PC )
- Anti-glare Screen. Let's face it, Anti Glare screen is a must on any laptop. Apple offered me the option of a high quality Anti Glare screen, so it pretty much eliminated all other competitors.

For the rest, PC laptops do their job jus as good if not better.

For $999 I have 2 operating systems. A real Mac and not trying hard to have a Mac installed (hackintosh)

Hardware is one if a kind. For the the price I payed this is definitely worth it.

Needed for school/work with all the Video Editing programs it has. Also I love to make music and Logic is an amazing program :)

Needed and wanted. I wanted a reliable notebook for video encoding, some gaming and for school.
I think the main reason for a Mac is OSX. For me, it's the best OS there is. Also the multi touch gestures are amazing. Working on a MBP is always a great pleasure.

I needed a laptop, for college, something that could take notes and edit basic HD footage. I realize now that the HD3000 could handle some FCPX, so I could've gotten by with a 13", but since I got the 15", I now realize that I could've been fine with the 2.0 instead of the 2.2. Oh well, it really wasn't a big deal and since I did, I will truly enjoy it for the next 4 years, which is as long as this computer needs to last me.

Want; I never really had any problems on my HP dv2000 once I installed Win7. But I wanted a Mac, and now don't really think I could(well, I could, but wouldn't want to) go back to using Win7 as my main OS, nor give up the build and features of a MBP.

But it's completely want, a laptop that cost half of my 7,1 was before upgrades would work fine for me, but I enjoy my Macs.

I bought the first one to compliment my windows gaming desktop and learn final cut pro. I felt it was a "need" for my desired career path.

A year or so later, I no longer have windows machines and just ordered a new $2300 MBP.

It's more of an obsession than a need now, but I love it :D

In my humble opinion and for my specific needs, I don't think there's a better computer than a well equipped macbook pro.

I'm an IT consultant whose company supports networks that use both Windows and Macs. I really liked the idea of having an Air (for portability), but couldn't get over the fact that I'd have to use a USB Ethernet adapter, and that the Air's RAM can't be upgraded.

The Pro gives me in-built Ethernet (for configuring network devices, working on client networks that - GASP - don't have wifi, and running protocol analyzers), with the added power to easily run Windows in a VM hypervisor. I use Parallels on the MBP, Fusion on my iMac.

I also like the fact that I can play around with music apps like GarageBand, Logic, and (some day) Final Cut on the weekends.

One final note is that I was really tempted to wait until a new MBP came out (hopefully with Ivy Bridge and a new case design), but finally decided that the Sandy Bridge models are plenty fast for my needs. I'm also actually quite attached to the current design. To me it has a kind of 'timeless' quality, like a really nice car design. Not something you see often in the world of computing.

I don't need a Mac, but one day I just went and bought one; now as my workflow has been migrated to the Mac, my want has turned into a need. Any faster Mac will let me do my work in less time. Don't need it to be faster, but want it to be?

No one "Needs" a MacBook Pro. Everyone can make due with a $399 Acer PC laptop.

Not a chance.

I needed a computer with the horsepower to run through hundreds of line of Matlab code, that could handle 3D modeling and fine-mesh Finite Element Analysis, as well as flow condition modeling. I needed all of that in a package that I could carry around, had decent battery life, and was fun to use for my more normal tasks. The latter part could have been accomplished with a standard Macbook, but the former required the horsepower of the Pro and there was no side-stepping that. I had an i7 Quad Core Dell Studio XPS16 before this computer, and the MBP walks all over it in every category.

If I wasn't an engineer, I'd probably have just gotten the standard Macbook.

I voted that I "needed a MacBook Pro" as I had been suffering using an inadeqaute Acer computer rather out-dated by the standards of modern day computing. I remember I originally wanted a Mac Mini to test the waters of OS X however I gradually became enamoured with the MacBook Pro. Occasionally I get frustrated over the odd app freeze but I have to say I'm incredibly happy with my MacBook Pro and I'm hoping to get another Mac in the foreseeable future!

Well i dont' "need" any computer. I wanted the MBP as it's the best computer Apple sells (in terms of value IMO) and paying 150 more (1099/1250) for the MBA with lower specs just doesn't seem logical.

I wanted a MBP for a while after wading through three or four supposedly high-end Windows 7 equipped laptops. I needed to get rid of those Windows 7 laptops because I can only use one laptop at a time and my Wife didn't see any point in me having multiple laptops lying around the house!

I still have a Windows 7 desktop but the MBP 15 I have now runs rings around it. At 61 and retired, I enjoy finding something new to learn and learning the Mac OS X is certainly an interesting but not daunting task. I also run Windows 7 using Bootcamp so I really feel that I still have two laptops in one.

At the time, when i bought my first MBP, I needed a new computer. My desktop got the blue screen of death, and I lost a ton of info. My buddy talked me inot trying a Mac, and I've been stuck since!

A little bit of both. I had an HP Pavilion laptop that was about 3 years old and it was running Ubuntu. Once I was on Ubuntu I never wanted to go back to Windows but the laptop didn't support it fully and it wound up giving me all sorts of problems. So I got a 17" MacBook Pro two Christmas's ago and have been more than happy with it since.

Hmm, this question makes no sense at all to me, yet there are 3 pages of long responses.

Oh well :D
