The problem is that some people might live too far away from an Apple Store. My nearest one for now is 200 miles away, come October the nearest will be 60 miles. Even then, I wouldn't travel 60 miles for an OS upgrade I could have delivered to my door on the same day. It just doesn't make sense at all!

As for me, nope. Not allowed to pre-order it :p Their are many Apple users living outside the US. Crafty from Amazon putting up the pre-orders before Apple, raking in the money from it!

I didn't mean just an apple store. If you're living in the US then you can go into best buy if it's too far away, if you're in the UK, you can pop into dixons or PC World in October. Only thing is I don't see the point in pre-ordering something now, which will most likely have copies available in store, unlike Windows 7 which will barely be available in stores due to demand.

I do see your point :). Dixons don't exist anymore they all turned into Currys. I have a local Currys but the chances of them stock Snow Leopard are minimal. The extent of their Mac software is Office 2008. PC World is 30 miles away too.

In fact I can't see any place locally stocking Snow Leopard, I have a big ASDA(Walmart) and Tesco in town but I can't see them stocking it. Comet another electronics retailer has some Mac accessories but nothing to write home about. Where I live is by no means small, their are 25,000 others in the same town and thousands more within the surrounding 20 miles.

I see the point about pre-ordering, it is in a sense pointless. I guess some people just want to be using Snow Leopard on release date, not having to wait a week before picking it up.

I will pre-order, as I have done with 7. I think the likelihood of any local UK retailers stocking it instore will be seriously low. I have never seen Currys etc stock Leopard so why would they start with SL?

I pre ordered because I'm eligible for the $9.95 upgrade. However, if it was going to cost me 29 dollars I might just wait and walk into one of the Apple stores they have in this area on the 1st day of sales. Apple's email acknowledgement said allow up to 5 days for delivery so those who can get one at the Apple store the first day will have them first.

This is a very worthwhile upgrade im my opinion. Several years ago I rewrote some 32bit code that ran on a 64 bit OS (Unix). Changed the code to 64 bits (mainly fixed up the pointers).

This was for a large simulation effort (32 processor verilog plicode model).

Our tests speed up by a factor of 10 - 30%.

I'll pre order but won't install untill the 1st update comes out. Its funny reading all the "oh crap, my puter crashed and it won't get up" threads on the initial release. :D

I've been tempted to pre-order it but something's telling me I should wait till it gets released and only one or two months after that purchase it. First, I want to see other people's feedback about it becuase who knows how buggy the initial release might be. And on top of that, I'm afraid certain little apps (especially those that haven't been updated in a while) wouldn't be compatible with SL.

So I guess I won't be purchasing it till about October/November.

I'm going to pre-order through Apple.

When do we think they'll finally list it on their site?

If I remember, they didn't put Leopard up for pre-order on their site until about a week before it's release.

I probably will go to an Apple store on the launch night and pick up a copy (and get a free t-shirt). I doubt my local PC World will have it in stock as when I went in the day before the Leopard launch and asked if they would have it in, the guy looked at me blankly and asked what Leopard was.

I haven't (MacBook going down crapper, not going to buy a new OS if the laptop won't work), I can't decide if I should even buy another Mac right now although if I do I am sure it will have Snow Leopard on it ;)

I'd rather walk into my local MacOutfitters on release day and enjoy the Snow Leopard Release Party, get a free T-shirt and maybe another goodie depending on whatever they give out this year, (Last time it was a stuffed Leopard, before that it was a cheapo Tiger watch.) and buy my copy and leave after bragging how I've been using it for months.

Much more fun.

I qualified for the "up to date" offer so I ordered through that method when my MBP came.

i will pre order from apple even tho i have 2 apple stores about 20 mins away im to lazy to drive plus i might be workin that :D
