I never used migration assistant before, or had any real idea of what to expect, but it moved my apps, settings and just about everything else to my new MBP in about 2hrs (about 85GB of data). However, the transfer did stall near the very end, and I had to eventually cancel the operation! But so far, it seems that everything was copied just fine. I did the transfer over ethernet.

did you connect them directly using the ethernet cable or were they hooked up to a router/switch?

i would definitely need to get some answers regarding how one goes about using MA with ethernet. Can you directly hook them up like with FW? if so is there any network setup needed?

Time Machine restores

Can we get some more details about restoring with Time Machine? If you did it, what process did you use?

I've done it once before when I swapped out an old hard drive for a new one with my current 1.8 GHz MBP. However, I know there are some differences in the OS with the new version, such as multi-touch support and the new energy saver icon. Will using a Time Machine backup screw that up?
