AT&T had a monopoly on all phone networks years ago and held back the progression of wireless technology about ten years.

They are currently trying to reform their monolopy right now.

If you want less dropped calls, go Verizon. If you want faster data, go AT&T.

Also voice & data at the same time is a must for me.

In other words, AT&T FTW.

uploads kind of iffy but download aint too shabby for vzw around my area

Definitely don't have any issues with loading anything.. perfectly fine with these speeds for my daily needs.

Speedtest.net app on new Verizon 4S for me indicates (run 3X and averaged):

180ms ping
1.48 Mbps down
0.60 Mbps up

The ping and up speeds aren't great, but I can live with the download speed. And the Verizon coverage here is, as advertised, great. Old iPhone on AT&T showed 2 bars (and dropped calls often), new Verizon iPhone shows 4-5 bars in the same location.

EDIT:

Just tested 3G speeds a couple miles away from home at a coffee shop.

178ms ping
1.48Mbps down
0.91 up

So very consistent around town.

A little confused.

3G Speed:
Test 1: 3.62 Down 0.31 UP
Test 2: 3.11 Down 0.96 UP

Wifi:
Test 1: 0.87 Down 1.72 UP
Test 2: 1.52 Down 1.19 UP

How is it possible that the wifi speeds are slower than the 3g speeds? When I did the test, all other internet capable devices were off. Also when I did the test on my laptop and desktop, I got 25.35,38.53 Down respectively which makes sense since I have the 30 Mbps package from Time Warner Cable. Any help is appreciated.

when i was at school the other day i ran a speed test on verizon 3g iphone 4 and i was getting 2 mbs up and .65 upload

Still waiting for the day for an iPhone with LTE. I'll keep my eye on the nexus prime...but I do really like iOS!

Just ran a few SpeedTests using AT&T 3G.

Avg 4.1 down, 1.1 up (Mbps).
Perfectly adequate for me.

I choose to suffer some call quality for simultaneous voice & data.

Verizon is major bogged down right now. I just ran a speed test and got 151 ping, 0.04 down and 0.01 up

And that's the thing; for me, I've always had great signal all over Florida. There are maybe a few times on a back road where I'm without service for 10 minutes, but other than that I'm consistently pulling 1megs at home and 3 in Tallahassee.

Good thing I have a MiFi for my iPhone and tablet.

This is what a 4G LTE iPhone would get. :[

(Image missing from quoted reply: 67ms ping, 8.94mb/s down, 2.46mb/s up)

Running a test of my local AT&T "3G" HSPA+ network with my iPhone 4S I get 66ms ping, 8.436mb/s down, 1.813mb/s up. Compare that to your LTE experience and I get more than 94% of the downstream performance, better than 73% upstream, and essentially identical latency. Right now LTE isn't available in enough markets, the battery life downside isn't worth it in those that do have it, and Apple knows that.

I think they made the right call. By the time the iPhone 5 ships LTE will be more widespread, faster, and low-power chipsets will let them ship a device that doesn't sacrifice battery life nearly the way it would if it shipped today.

My wifi is just a tad bit faster than Verizon's 3G. I can't get it past .85/.85 Mbps. Very sad because that's cable.. Not dialup. Unfortunately it's the only service provider in this area so I have to deal with it until fios makes its way here. I'm in the Pittsburgh area. But yea their 3G sucks.

I have Fios wifi. Just did a speediest and showed 20.57 down and 15.76 up. It varies some, but not much.

A whole lot faster than my 3G numbers!
