UK only: If the merchant truly supports ApplePay (ie, M&S) then any amount should be fine on the watch/phone. If it's regular contactless payment then it's either £20 or £30 depending on if they have updated their firmware since the limit was increased.
The website Contactless.life is your friend here. Not many have dropped the £30 limit for Apple Pay. BP were rumoured to do so in November but I've not heard anything since I tried to ask some of the staff...

I've tried to use my watch at McDonald's, in the drive-thru. Every, single, time, they look at me like I'm from Neptune. They don't know who to get their machine to work and I end up handing them my credit card. And these same morons are demanding $15/hour minimum wage.

You're at a McDonald's, and you expect knowledgeable staff. Who's the moron now? Lol

Not understanding how to implement :apple:Pay doesn't make them a "moron". You could find countless college professors that could not do their job, much less understand a POS and :apple:Pay.

Just like any job, if you have not been properly trained you won't likely know how to do it.

Then don't advertise that you allow this feature, if your staff doesn't have any clue how to use it.

I have a 6yr old child. If you advertise a service, I expect you to know how to use it. Period.

You're missing my point. Obviously a low level, minimum wage fast food employee may not be up to date on cutting edge technology. The training may have only covered Apple Pay using an iPhone.
So, my point remains...why would someone reasonably expect top notch customer service at a fast food restaurant?

My girlfriend is the same, she has the 6s but Barely knows a thing about 3D Touch for example.

Using it on my watch I think gets more wow than the phone I would Imagine.

Bet be even better in a pub at night, could be a good pulling line

You are _very lucky_ to have a girlfriend.

I'd forget about the pulling line advise and concentrate on keeping your girlfriend happy, just saying;) .

Cheers.

Just used it for the first time tonight at Best Buy. Was awesome. Way too excited to spend money....this could be trouble. Had a good conversation with my bank when I set up verification. She as all excited it was her first Apple Watch set up. :)

Used mine again at BJ's discount warehouse and at an H Mart grocery store. Again, though, Michael's crafts store doesn't have contactless payment (they still use a signature by pen), so I can't go walletless yet.

The less that my card number gets out there, though, the better. I'm eager to see how long it'll take restaurants in the US to catch up to European payment methods.

Apple Pay has absolutely been awesome. Wish more places had them.

Have also been putting gift cards on the phone too (using the Gyft app and then adding cards to the Wallet app), quite convenient. Now I don't need to take my stack of gift cards in my wallet--just pull out the phone and there it is. Bonus is that it shows up on my spouse's phone too. Will need to see if I can get more loyalty cards here too.

Just in case anybody is interested, there is an app called Pay Finders in the App Store. It can bring up a map of your area and show you everywhere that accepts Apple Pay. Even has the cool Google Maps integration to get you directions.

Haven't used it yet, because, either I don't realize the place has it or I don't bother because I don't think the employee knows how to use it. I'm a bit puzzled with it. I've seen videos where people go up and use it, regardless of whether the employee knows anything about how to use it, and then I've read a few people say they couldn't use it because the employee didn't know how.

I'm also not quite sure about how to use it. Can you simply put your phone near the card reader and a sensor makes it pop up, or do you have to go to a certain screen? Same thing with the watch?

Totally off topic, but part of the reason these people work at McDonald's is they refused to learn or take instruction in high school. So now they refuse to learn or take instruction on the job and don't know how to operate what they have.

You realise anywhere that accept contactless, also accept Apple Pay? They don't specifically need to display an Apple Pay sticker.

As others have pointed out...no. CVS is the best example. AP is specifically not accepted.

Yesterday I went to buy a pair of shoes at our new Sketchers store. Terminal came up and showed AP and a few other options. So I paid on my watch. The cashier and my husband were standing there wondering why I wasn't taking out a credit card while I was already signing my name.

A little later we went to the movies. I'd bought the tickets (with AP) on the Fandango app...while drinking coffee at Starbucks purchased directly from my watch. Pulled up my movie tickets in Wallet, and the kids at the theater scanned the bar code. They were blown away. As they should have been.

...Or they decided to get a job and work while going to college?

Not the majority.

Back on topic, I'll add to my last post. Part of the reason I bought the tickets on Fandango was that my husband with his Samsung phone, couldn't buy the tickets because he couldn't use PayPal on the same phone he was trying to purchase the tickets. WTH? I'm so glad I'm an Apple person.

I've downloaded it and it's pretty good.

With iPhone, you simply place your finger on the TouchID button (without pressing) and put it near the card reader. It'll wake up with the default card and initiate the transaction. Or bring near the card reader without your finger on TouchID and swipe to select one of the non-default cards before paying. Can also double-click the home button to bring up Apple Pay screen.

With AW, you double-click the side button and put it near the card reader to initiate the transaction. The AW is usually easier as it avoids the extra step of taking the iPhone out of pocket.

Sign? Genuine question, if you use AP in the US do you have to sign as well? Here in the UK I absolutely cannot remember the last time I had to sign for payment, it is one thing I feel they've got right with chip & PIN.

Still pockets of surprise here, although they're getting fewer. Girl in Staples was amazed today.
